From a Bama fan/grad

I completely understand the animosity towards the idea of a potential rematch because we would be saying the same things if the roles were reversed. I do have to disagree with a previous post that LSU would have been excluded if we would have won. The idea was already being bantered about before the game that LSU would have a very strong case for a rematch if it was a close game. I sincerely am against the idea of a rematch in general; however, in my opinion lsu and alabama are so significantly better than anyone else that it was unavoidable this year. Good luck this week

Sounds reasonable to me. Good luck to you Sir.

LSU was being discussed because it would have been a close "road" loss versus losing in your own backyard. Home losses= penalized more . That was the contention. Not sure I would have agreed with it, but that was the basis

I rather agree. The fact is the BCS has been very very good to LSU. The inequities of this year aside, we can't whine about how this imperfect process unfolds as we were fortunate beneficiaries of the process in 03 and 07.

This is actually quite correct. Prior to our game on Nov 5th, many said the ONLY way a potential rematch could happen is if LSU lost (given our OOC schedule and results).

Yes, that was discussed. LSU, and only LSU, would have a case for a rematch. The punditry agreed that Bama would not get a rematch bc it was a home game. Yet immediately after the game, I started hearing about a rematch.

This.

And fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on where you stand, that is irrelevant given the structure of the BCS.
Look, no one is saying LSU didn't win on 11/5, and no one is saying BAMA should be #1, but it just doesn't seem like there is much separation b/w LSU and BAMA, and that should be pretty obvious once you realize that 3 points made the difference.

I agree with all of this.
The problem is the polls are damned if they do and damned if they don't . . . depending on whose ox is gored.
I've argued the in favor of another team getting a shot, but at this point I don't care that much anymore.
I think LSU wins in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, regardless.
Or as they say in Tuscaloosa, irregardless.
j/k

Great post, but what may have been talked about and what would actually happen are two different things. IMO, I don't think for one moment LSU would have been afforded a rematch.
