Trusted source tells me 80-20 Frank is gone. He wants to be a HC.

That would be career suicide for Wilson.

I think there is a lot of football potential for a school like UTSA. Only college in San Antonio and large enrollment numbers (Over 28,000 students). Play in the Alamo Dome (I went to a UTSA vs Tech game in the Alamo Dome and was impressed with how nice it is). You can recruit Texas. UTSA has a lot going for it actually. They just need somebody to get it started. Coker was good hire to start the program but he wasn't going to take them to that next level. I could see why a young and hungry Coach would consider going there.

Nah. Ask Frank who taught him everything he knows about recruiting. That guy happens to be our DL coach. We'll be OK.

I still don't want him to leave.

I didn't believe him either.

But his info comes from "inside the building" as they like to say. Hell, he spoke with Frank at great length last week at the coaches convention...which coincidentally was in San Antonio.

It doesn't make sense. Why would he want a job there even if he wants to be a HC? LSU will match probably anything they offer if not more. They don't exactly have the budget to outbid LSU. He's not going anywhere. If anything he'll get a raise and he's sure as hell not going to do it this late in the game unless the staff already knew.

It actually wasn't THAT bad when Porter took the job. Tommy West definitely faded down the stretch, and struggled to recruit even on a CUSA level when he was there. However, he had a solid 3-4 year run. He was only 2 years removed from a bowl season when he was fired.

Memphis hit rock bottom BECAUSE of Porter. He was the only coach I can remember who was verifiably worse than Curly Hallman.

I agree it would be a terrible move. So does my source. It doesn't make the info wrong though. Just passing on what I know.

Doesn't make it right either. At worst I think he's using them for leverage. LSU isn't going to let Wilson leave this late in the process for a 150k raise and maybe turn around a shite team or commit career suicide. He's in a nice spot and will probably never get fired at LSU even if Les was booted. He can wait for a better opportunity to open somewhere else and probably even retain his job at LSU. Not much scrutiny on a RB coach with guys like Fournette all the time.

It's a perfect opportunity to use it as leverage against LSU for a raise. That's about all it's going to end up being.

UTSA will probably hire OU's DC Spencer. He's got connections to the area and already visited the campus Wednesday. Frank will only be offered the job if Spencer turns UTSA down, which is unlikely.

I would think he would use this for a pay raise and stick around for Fournette's last year. If LSU has the year I think they will next year, the flood gates will open for him and he will most likely get a much better offer than UTSA.

it's still a shitty job. that's why what fuente was able to do was as impressive as it was and why he got the offer he did

If he were to leave for a dead end job (possible career suicide) at the midst of this team coming together and our recruiting class then frick him. The guy has never been a head coach let alone a coordinator. Frank needs to chill the frick out and humble himself a bit, he's not the next Tom Herman. Tired of hearing about him whining for a HC job when the guy has not proven an ounce of what it takes to be one.

yeah he also finished 2-10 his last season. but i won't even put it on west. memphis gives ZERO support, fanwise, or financially, to their football program. it's embarrassing. no one goes to games, the liberty bowl is a complete shithole. it's an off campus stadium. no one at the school cares about anything other than tiger basketball. there's a reason that tommy west was the first coach to take them to a bowl since spook murphy in 1970

memphis hit rock bottom because that is where they usually are. their high point is bowl eligibility

A little harsh? Frank Wilson is one of the hardest working coaches on staff and will definitely get an opportunity somewhere. Did it ever occur to you his name is always up for HC jobs every year because he's in high demand for a reason?

A lot of reason to leave LSU but UTSA is not one of them. If he wanted a dead end job he would've lobbied for the other ones over the years. He's waiting for the prime opportunity. Pay raise. That's all this is, IMO.
