He has to be around next season. After that he can go pro..
If you redshirt you can leave after your Redshirt Sophomore season..

he played so well yesterday the NFL has announced that he is now a free agent and can be picked up by anyone

Rule is he is can go to the draft 3 years after high school. He is a true sophomore, so he has to wait 1 more year after this year before enetering the draft.

Call it semantics if you like, but what you state is technically not accurate. You have to be 3 years removed from HS.
Example 1: Jeremy Hill
Example 2: Tyrann Mathieu
