Foul OU in the last 15-20 Seconds; don't let them make a last second shot

They had just missed the front end of two one and one's.

Rickey Blanton suggested this coming out of that timeout.

Worst case you have the ball down 2 points with 15-20 seconds left.

They're also one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country.
They would have made the free throws.

If Johnny would have done that, this board would have murdered him in his sleep tonight.

Really, who gives the other team free throws on purpose when the game is tied with 15 seconds left?

If JJ would have used this strategy and lost. He would have been stoned at mid court. You have to D up and hope u can force a turnover or missed shot.

Worst idea ever...even if Blanton did suggest it. You make them make the shot to win it instead of gifting them a chance to take the lead.

And yes, this is the truest statement spoken on the Rant today. If it had gone down that way and we lost, all 3 hamsters that run the TD server would have died from the explosion that would have happened here. I am pretty sure I have NEVER seen a team intentionally do this.

The correct play is to play defense and get the ball back. Their kid made a play. Kudos to him...and our kid almost countered with his own play.

I heard this, I just don't like this idea. The pg shoots like 40% from the floor and probably 80% from the line.

We were committed to not let heild shoot it and he didn't cousins or Woodward, not sure which, made a contested shot and it went it. It wasn't some great play drew up nor was it awful defense, just a clutch basketball play.

Blanton does a good job on the call but there's a reason Nicholls went 3-25 and 6-21 when he was coach if he wants to do stuff like that.

yeah it was a tough shot, it's not like we left him alone. just basketball.

Blowing a 14-pt lead, is not just basketball.

You don't foul with the game tied.

I'm sorry but that is retarded. You don't allow them to take the lead play defense and go to overtime.

It was a rebuilding job, and he didn't get enough time.

Yeah...Blanton is no JP Piper, that's for sure. Look at the juggernaut he has built down in T-town

3 things.... #1, there is a reason why Ricky is no longer coaching. #2, they are one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country and #3, hindsight has 20/20 vision and still can't see crap until after it happens.

A staple of JJ's coaching is to have a big lead then not continue to attack. Instead, they keep the ball until the shot clock is about to expire and shoot a bad shot which leads to the other team inching back into the game.

I have always thought this. Then u have a chance to win the game no matter what. Your fate is in your hand, but just like why do teams that are up by 3 foul with less than 4-5 seconds left almost nobody does it.

LSU could tie or lose depending on last shot. Seems to be best option to try to go for steal if u dont get it foul, u have a chance to tie or win. Samt thing in football when u need to left the other score so u have time left.

I thought they should have trapped the first ball handler one it was inbounded. Maybe it surprises them and speeds them up. Maybe we get a turnover or maybe they take a quick shot and leave us more time at the other end. Just make sure one of the guys you might leave open if they swing the ball quickly enough isn't Hield.
