Figure something like that statue of limitations would have kicked in since it has been 10+ years. Only thing that could come would be to look into it and see if it has continued

Wonder how much the academic situation had to do with saban bolting for NFL
Doubt much, but good question.
Saban's ego>>>>>>>>academic issues taken care of.
And from the article:
quote:
Despite admitting only isolated problems, LSU cleaned up a lot. It switched control of its academic center for athletics from the athletic department to the provost. A new $15 million academic center was opened in late 2002, and the size of the academic support staff for athletes was doubled. Football players who entered LSU from 2002-05 graduated at a rate of 77%, ranking second in the Southeastern Conference.

I'm on the fence about this. What did the fans do to deserve what they got? The guilty parties should have been punished. Like bountygate, its seems like the innocent fans paid the price.
It was not just recruiting violations...it was a deliberate cover-up a crime by the leadership of the institution--it has nothing to do with what the fans deserve or do not deserve. Additionally, the "we are the only institution to never be on probation" was a recruiting tool of PSU, which perpetuated the cover-up at the top.

Penn State deserved what they got from the NCAA.

You punish the school for the guilt of those who govern the school.
PSU was guilty of allowing a sick frick free access to their grounds and the young males who visited those grounds long after some who governed the school were aware sick crap was going on.
PSU should drop to its knees in thanks for even being allowed to still have a football program.
As should LSU fans for ME vision and guidance.

The USA Today writes Emmert “irked some faculty with two bold moves. He pushed to use taxpayer money to fund a football stadium renovation and helped make football coach Steve Sarkisian the highest-paid state employee at about $2 million.”
Oh, the horror!

Operative thrust of article: "Mark Emmert‘s unprecedented action against Penn State following the Freeh Report on the Jerry Sandusky scandal was uncalled for, making the past year memorable for the NCAA for all the wrong reasons."
Butt-hurt powerful Penn State supporters pulling out all stops to 'get' Emmert. Nothing bad about Emmert until he did the right thing with Penn State.

Right, so the NCAA shouldn't have had jurisdiction, the legal authorities should have handled it.

Don't think that would have worked anymore, do you? What were the recruiting violations?

It could not have happened to a more deserving person. Emmert's NCAA tenure was at best, mediocre.

During the Saban years a Reveille writer went to the parking lot of a bunch of players' apartment complex and wrote down vin numbers on some of the cars. ALL vin numbers traced back to a Miami Auto Dealership. For some reason, the story never got printed.

Saban is not dirty. You guys accusing him are simply whining because he's successful. You're advertising your own insecurity.
He's a great coach - one of the greatest in the history of college football. But every time we've played him I thought we were going to win; I think we'll beat him next year; and I think we'll beat him every other time we play him!
