For those in the know. How much influence does TAF have?

I was wondering that when Alleva refused to match Texas A&M could TAF have stepped in and saved this disaster from happening.

Chavis was the program, considering that we have a virtually non-existent offense. Without the tiger defense, I think we are 3-9 this year and 0-8 in the SEC.

No Chavis, no Coach Miles, and we could easily end up with someone worse.

Remember the Archer-Hallman-Dinardo years. Remember Stovall before that. This job had chewed up a lot of people before. Les Miles has held this program together. Believe me it is not easy.

Do you trust Alleva, after the Chavis debacle to hire the next head football coach at LSU?

Do you remember Lou Tepper and Malaveto. By the way the veto and Malaveto is still here.

No Sir! Chavis was the program. Miles will be out by the end of 16 and the golden age of LSU football will be over.

So why did TAF not step in and work out a package for Chavis?

LSU Defense has been good since 2000 during Saban and early Miles career without Chavis

Chavis had great players and did good. Lost games also with Chavis and his prevent defense was suspect.

We will get a good DC, more worried about the QB for next year.

Can't take you seriously if you think we would have lost to Kentucky. Also, Chavis lost the bama and ND games

Chavis was being unreasonable with his contract demands. Joe told him and his agent to fck off.
I'm sure he checked with the big boosters before saying that though.

Maybe they didn't because they agreed with him on this one?

Don't think they have much influence with Miles. He likes to be the MAN. TAF and former players sent a record number of recommendations for a recent coach that was being interviewed. Did not good. He hired his friend.

EXACTLY. It wasn't just a matter of paying more, which was probably not a great anyway. Chavis wanted some guarantees and stuff in his contract that I doubt any other assistance coach in the country has.
It was not handled well by Chavis and his agent.
He knew he had the A&M job if he wanted it, so I guess he decided to go for broke against Joe. Joe called his bluff.

As an organization TAF is there to raise the money the AD cannot raise through ticket sales etc. so when we build an $5mm gymnastics faciltity or the nutrietion center TAF gets its donors to contribute and borrows the money and repays it with proceeds from the suites and stadium club which TAF leases for$1 from LSu for 100 years (literally).
Sorry, got long winded but needed that as background. As an organization TAf simply supports what the AD needs. Individual donors (large ones) may influence or be asked to support specific projects or contracts but in the case of Chavis I would be very surprised of it ever came to someone wanting or not wanting to pay him as making any difference.
Finally, do not underestimate the importance of the relationship between Les and Joe and who has the power. They are not close.
