For the BK detractors, who would you have hired?

I think there are obviously some defensive issues that need to be addressed in the offseason but I feel like BK is doing a pretty good job so far, all things considered.

I see some posters here saying he'll never win, he's not the guy, etc. so I'm curious, who is the guy?

It isn't fair to trash the hire if you can't present a better alternative. The other "hot names" that year were Billy Napier and Lincoln Riley yet neither of those guys have really been "better."

That's a good question. The other two likely suspects, Jimbo and Napier, aren't setting the world on fire rn. Lincoln Riley is all offense, no defense like BK and will jump to the NFL the first chance he gets. Saban ain't coming. Harbaugh ain't coming. Dabo ain't coming. Anybody else would be a crapshoot. BK may or may not pan out, but he was the best available.

It’s the question Aggy will be asking in the next year or two. You were either going to have to take a huge gamble with a top 5 program or find someone capable of not getting lost in the gravity of the job. You can say a lot of shite about Kelly but the job isn’t too big for him.

See Sunbelt Billy as exhibit A.

I actually liked Luke Fickell however per reporting at the time, it seemed he wanted to stay in the Midwest.

He's currently 5-4 at Wisconsin and "not a cultural fit" also though.

The answer is Lincoln Riley. He was overwhelmingly the endorsed candidate of the Rant. He would've brought Grinch with him so things likely wouldn't have been much different. We'd have Caleb Williams and a shite defense.

My own initial leaning of the perceived options was Napier. I'm surprised at how poorly that's turned out at Florida. Guess there's a reason they don't let the fans make the hire.

Bo Pelini deserves another shot at HC. No interview needed

I’m happy we have BK and I believe he will get the team where it needs to be. Napier does not have the experience necessary to take a team over that was in the shape LSU was in after Coach O screwed it around.

With that said, I still think Napier was a good hire and will do good things at Florida. I think people are being unfairly impatient with him. But to take on the challenge that was LSU Football we needed, and got the best man available.

I'm perfectly fine with the hire, as I think most fans are. However, the only thing that I completely disagree with is the contract. I don't think any coach that has never won a title deserves a 10-year contract. You should ALWAYS give yourself an "out" if the hire doesn't work out. A 10-year contract in CFB is just mind-boggling.

I think people are trashing the product on the field. The hire was fine and yes we have to give him time. But we don’t have to be happy with the performance this season. The defense is embarrassing and inexcusable. Frankly, you could argue that JD has carried this team and staff. Another season like this and I’ll have my pitchfork ready.

I don't think Napier is bad, these things take time.

Mike Norvell would've been fired a long time ago, if fans were in charge.

Wasn't available at the time but I would DEFINITELY have kept Coach O another year if I was in talks with Urban Meyer and felt I could get him. Personal feelings and all the other "stuff" aside, UM is the one coach that can build this program into a year-in year-out playoff team and win multiple titles.

BTW, if we're being completely honest, I think he's a better coach than Saban.

I don't know if Urban has it in him anymore, the Jaguars were a complete dumpster fire while he was there and all the players absolutely hated him.

Maybe 10 years ago. Not anymore. Urban is cooked. You can see the toll the stress has taken on him even in the last 5 years.
