Could be wrong, but I think the team had some good talent when he got here.

This is true but many dismiss horrible losses like UAB as Saban not having "his" players.

Absolutely he does. And criticized for losing with the talent we have.

Here's a few since you weren't paying attention:

With the talent we have the goal should be win the west, play in the SEC Championship, win that and then go play for the National Championship.

I wasn't very satisfied to be 9-3 and going to play in the Outback Bowl last year with all the talent we had. So much talent that after they left, we're struggling to even compete against anyone in the West

And waste all my knowledge when he won't listen????? No Thanks... ENJOY YOUR $4 mill a year for a team THIS TALENTED THAT GOES 8-4 at best..............

He won his hardware with "talent" also.

So why do many insult Miles for his wins with "talent" but never say anything about Saban.

Its pretty telling.

Because there is a fine line between great teams and great teams that win championships. In fact, I would say that it is because of sabans success with his talent that miles catches flack. Equally talented teams, one is a dynasty the other has ream votes.

Those that still credit Saban for the state of the LSU program 10 years since he left are equally as bad.

Agreed. Les is almost 100% responsible for the current state of the program.

The question is whether he was responsible for the state of it in his first few years here or whether he was to a great extent helped by the turnaround performed by Saban and company 2000-2004. The answer to that question is so obvious that only on TD.com could it be in question at all.

I'm not even sure why these debates happen anymore. Somehow Miles has won a boatload of games at LSU. We all know the overall record. We all know he was fortunate to be in the 2007 title game. We all know that he was unlucky to face a rematch against a clearly better Alabama team in 2011. Some of you think his record is due to him being a great coach. Most everyone else in the world thinks he has achieved that record despite not being a great coach.

Holy shite. If you can't see that the great talent Saban puts on the field is consistently more focused, more disciplined and better prepared than the great talent Miles puts on the field you're blind, delusional, retarded, or all three. His teams have talent and great coaching. That's why he has four times as many NCs as Miles.

Since the 2011 season, Les Miles has done much less "winning" then Saban.

None of the quotes you provided criticize Miles for winning with talent.
I'm not saying they are not out there, but I do think it would take a very uncharitable reading of most of the "talent" talk to interpret it as saying that Miles sucks because he wins with talent. The point of that talk is that, based on how the team has played over a decade, it seems that Miles gets by on talent despite not being a very good coach.

Obviously he recruited everyone that got here after Saban left, so he gets credit for recruiting the talent. He also gets a lot of credit for his ability to connect with players and motivate them. So far those strengths plus some timely luck have enabled him to keep the program at a pretty high level. Over the last few years it seems like his luck might be running out.

Saban equally inept with clock management. Clock management over rated! Plenty of opportunities in a game to overcome clock management. Also, Sean Peyton awful at clock management

Please don't compare Miles to Saban. Saban has won 3 national titles in the last 5 seasons, this being the 6th (add in a 4th title while at LSU). While it's true that no matter how good of a coach you are, you have to have talent, it's also true that Nick Saban is by far >>>>> Les Miles.

As for Saban handcuffing his OC's, do you want to compare the qb numbers of LSU and Bama qb's since Jimbo Fisher left?

Plenty on this board do this every day. Apparently you and others think its only alright to compare the two when its advantageous to insult Miles.

Are you blind? In what real comparison does Miles have any advantage?
