Miles was fired (deservedly so) because he went 15-11 in the SEC (10-10) against the West) his last 3+ years.

Not disagreeing. I'm on record on this site last year as saying if we didn't win the West in 2016 he should be let go.

This thread is addressing the hysterical bashing of a coach that was just under 5-3 in the SEC in his worst three year stretch in 11 years.

Time to move on. Yep.

Justification for the insults and bashing he took for the majority of his tenure. Not a chance.

I defended miles. And I'm not yet ready to call O the worst coach in the history of football. Sure miss st was awful. But let's see how the team responds over the next 4 weeks. Then we can have a more informed discussion.

But for now I will support this lsu team and the coach like I always have.

How is that dumb? I was there. I witnessed our coach frantically trying to call a timeout to stop the clock after we intercepted a pass. I saw us blow a 21-0 lead against an inferior team.

Again, anything going on in the region around that time? I can't remember. How'd our home game the week before go?

So Hurricane Rita caused our coach to not realize that the clock stops after a change of possession?

Right. That's pretty much my point. Miles shite his pants in that game and still turned out to be a very successful coach for us.

Edit: I got so caught up bickering with LNCHBX that I forgot my original point.

This is just an absurd level of excuse making that you never would have done for Miles. O has done nothing to earn this.

you're making this up. I will always give miles credit for his good qualities. he did some good things, but the great days were over. we all knew what miles problem was - he would not open up the offense.

I have to agree with your opinion. Fans were bitching just about as loud when Saban lost to UAB. According to the bitch and moan crowd, a damn Yankee could not be successful in the SEC".

Is it fire the guy he is retarded level stuff?? Nah.

I liked Les and supported him for years, even when others were saying stupid things about him. Why anyone would use the word "retarded" is beyond me.
But his lack of willingness to make changes and move into a new era of CFB made it evident to almost everyone, including most national analysts, that his time here needed to end.

But the real killer that you failed to disclosed is the following:

Les' SEC Record

2013 5-3
2014 4-4
2015 5-3
2016 1-1

While his overall record may have looked marginally competitive and his winning percentage at LSU was still very high, 15 wins in his last 26 SEC games isn't competitive in anyone's book.

I've already said that I agreed that Miles should have been gone if he didn't win the West in 2016.

But as for 5-3, 4-4, and 5-3 not being competitive, I'll disagree again.

14-10 is competitive. ABOVE our all time conf win pct before he took over, in fact.

We were ALWAYS competitive under Miles. He was fired because he wasn't winning championships. Not because he wasn't competitive.

Also, can you list all the coaches in the SEC that had a better conference record than that in those three seasons? TIA

It's amazing that we ran Miles off for being mediocre and are just supposed to accept what O has given us.

We fire Miles for being "mediocre"......that's winning a NC, playing in another, couple of SEC championships, regular top 10 finishes, best run in LSU history......and hire Ed Orgeron......career position coach and proven failure at his only venture into the head coaching world.......with the understanding that he won't actually coach anything. And I remind you that there are a large portion of LSU fans that support this. The ones that say "anyone can win at LSU".

Those fans are idiots.
Alleva is an idiot.
Anyone else involved with the hiring of O is an idiot.

O, well, O is looking like a damn genius. Paid millions for a job he could never succeed at.

Not saying that he could do no wrong. I was never a huge Miles fan and hated watching his defenses. BUT to fire Miles and then turn around and hire O? We took 10 steps back with this hire.

The big difference between people upset about the UAB loss and the one last week is Saban didn't have a history of being a terrible head coach so there was some hope that the loss was just an exception rather than the rule. The loss O just endured helped cement people's opinion that he is still a bad head coach and losses like this are the rule rather than the exception.

Yes it always hurts on the recruiting trail. But what you need to understand it is a reflection of what the fanbase is seeing from a results standpoint. We as LSU fans have seen the potential of this program realized first by Saban and then to an extent by Miles himself. He failed to maintain it because he is an unimaginative stubborn arse man. That negativity has been used against LSU on the recruiting trail since the 2011 MNC game and it has grown every year. Make no mistake Miles is the reason for the weakness on both of the lines of scrimmage he stocked up on skill players for years to bolster recruiting rankings. Anyone who couldn't see this coming is blind whether Miles, O, or fricking the kissing bandit Herman were to be coaching this team the same result would have happened last Saturday. Can Ed O do the job I don't know I hope so we will see. At least he is willing to change the approach unlike Miles.
