Flights to Seattle open up in 30 days ...

Can't wait to book my flight! That's gonna be an awesome game to open the season, especially with Saban as the head coach of U-Dub. Any chance Seattle has an earthquake in early September 2009? Or MSY is shut down because of a hurricane here?
Seriously, though, any advice on what area to stay in Seattle? Close to UW or downtown? Or is UW downtown? I knnow nothing about Seattle, never been there.

UW is not downtown. I'd probably stay near the campus. It's a pretty cool area.

I think they call the area near campus U Village or something like that.

I'm thinking about trying to make it up to this game. Once a decade opportunity to go see an away venue like that IMO.

I'm 90% sure I'm going.

I went to Seattle last year for the Saints/Seahawks game.
I used Hotwire and chose the 4-star option in downtown Seattle. It was like $79 a night and turned out to be the Sheraton in downtown Seattle.
Beautiful hotel - huge, but very nice. Incredible lobby, comfy beds, plasma TV's etc.
Hotwire is incredible - it's never let me down. Use it for Downtown Seattle and you'll be set. The entire city is money - there are virtually no sketchy areas.

I am going to turn it into a 2 week trip (maybe 2.5 weeks) which will include either:
- camping & hiking in Washington & Oregon
- an Alaskan Cruise
hmmm... very tough choice!

You'd be an absolute moron to not stay in downtown Seattle. It's one of the most beautiful and safe cities in the world. Great food, tons to do, etc.
Man, I can't wait for this trip.

Anyone notice that OU is playing there this weekend?

We did the Saints/Seahawks game and then our Celebrity cruise left Seattle Monday night. It was an okay cruise - the pool wasn't open and the seas were choppy for an entire day on the way back. It was my first cruise and I liked it, but Nanaimo was boring as a monkey's arse and Victoria only slightly better.

I've been to Seattle, I know downtown is clean and safe.
The area near campus is more ecletic though. More of what you see in the Seattle movies of the 90's, think Reality Bites or Singles.

So would you recommend staying there? It's close to lots of bars and restaurants in downtown Seattle I assume?

Works for me. I'll be the guy in purple and gold.

Fair enough, I apologize. I'm definitely a city guy though and I just cant imagine passing up the awesome restaurants and the melting pot of cultures that downtown offers.
I had breakfast at Piroshky, Piroshky and had awesome Russian pastries with a coffe from the original Starbucks next door. Then lunch at a wonderful French Brasserie called Le Pichet. Then dinner at a 4-star restaurant that I can't remember the name of, but the best boulliabase I've ever had. The nightlife was awesome - we went out to some kick arse clubs and bars, one was in an old church. I want to live in Seattle one day. And obviously the sushi is great as are all the Asian restaurants.

well, schedules are "subject to change" and my slight worry is that with Ty Willingham having four consecutive losing seasons at UW, that if 2008 makes it five, then he might want to dump-off a highly likely home loss to LSU from the 2009 schedule.
and, unfortunately, 2008 looks rough for the Huskies:
8-30-08 at Oregon {LOSS 44-10}
9-6-08 BYU {LOSS 28-27}
9-13-08 OKLAHOMA
9-27-08 STANFORD
10-4-08 at Arizona
10-18-08 OREGON ST.
10-25-08 NOTRE DAME
11-1-08 at Southern Cal
11-8-08 ARIZONA STATE
11-15-08 UCLA
11-22-08 at Washington St.
12-6-08 at Cal
decent chance for them to lose seven
of coures if its a new coach, who knows??

Make sure you go the the meat/smoke shop owned by Mario Batalli's dad. It is in downtown and sells out daily so go early.
Google the name.
And check out the original Starbucks logo at the original store.

Saban's going to be the coach next season at UW anyway.
