A ball that rolls through a fielder's legs without being touched is an error, isn't it?

Even if no one touched it, he should have had it. He was in position, and he fricked up. It happens, but i know he's kicking himself.

When pop-ups are hit that high, they fall like a knuckleball and are extremely difficult to judge, especially with the wind blowing like it was today.

You are correct when saying the player doesn't have to touch the ball for it to be an error. The rule book states "It is not necessary that the fielder touch the ball to be charged with an error.
If a ground ball goes through a fielder’s legs or a pop fly falls untouched and, in the
scorer’s judgment, the fielder could have handled the ball with ordinary effort, an
error should be charged."

But, The rule book also states "Mental mistakes or misjudgments are not to be scored as errors unless
specifically covered in the rules."

I was scoring the game from my seat behind 3rd base and I disagreed with the official score. I would have scored it a hit.

In retrospect, I believe the fact that Poche had a no hitter going influenced the official scorers decision to rule it an error.

Either way, Poche pitched a beautiful game and I don't want to take anything away from him.

It went in the books as an official game, so who gives a shite?
