I fail to see what he was a dumbass about. He didn't think that firing Miles was in the best interests of the program. So he made the call. Alleva is the real dumbass here.

I'd have a hard time believing that anyone would be stupid enough and incompetent enough to start down a path such as this, which was highly visible to the public and extremely costly (even if it wasn't the University's money), without vetting it with his boss.
