He's personal friends with Steve Shaw, League Director of Officials, a bama alum & long time friend. So he took offense at what he took an LSU caller's slam on the League's refs. He said that if a League ref messes up, he is immediately reprimanded. Just not publically, obviously.

I heard the exchange, and unfortunately the LSU fan that called couldn't or didn't explain the video. It's pretty clear that Arkansas got robbed of a touchdown by a holding call where their guard didn't touch a lineman who fell down on his own. The caller didn't explain the context.

it is real. usually very subtle. they don't called for penalties that are obvious -esp interference and holding.
they also get the benefit of the doubt on reviewed plays.
bama doesn't need the extra help, but they get it.

Some ranter did a longitudinal scientific study of Bama penalties over the last decade which showed they were least penalitzed team and their opponents if they were a single team would be the most penalized each and every year, even when Saban coached LSU and Shula coached Bama. Also, showed that they average almost 3 holding penalties a game with out of conference refs and about 3 a year in the SEC. interesting right after this was published and picked up by some media outlets it changed last year. But they garbage stat penalties that had no impact on the games.
