Auburn threw theirs and lost
Florida squeezed by the worst team in the field by 2 runs albeit throwing Jac(who would be an ace on half the SEC teams)
Bama went extra innings

We’ve seen Floyd and Hurd give up many runs in a single inning…..so yes having semi-decent arms behind them is extremely important.

AU didn't lose because of their pitching they lost cause they only got 4 damn hits all 11 innings...

no...its the exact reason you have your ace ready in game 2...either to keep you alive or send you into the championship game...

Funny thing is, he pitched a 7 hit complete game with 2 earned runs and 12 strikeouts, and statistically it was below average. His ERA went up and his Ks per 9 innings went down...

I don’t care that Tulane is 19-40- this statement is NEVER true in a Regional. We’ve seen (and been) the team getting hot at the right time and making a run.

All that being said, thank you Skkkkkkkkkkkkenes. Hell of a game! Look forward to another performance next weekend.

Skenes was great. I wish we had him more than one year. But we will go portal hunting again.

Jay made right call.
You don’t know this and won’t know this until the conclusion of this regional.

It’s still a questionable call. Look at years past and even this year. How many 1 seeds started their ace against the 4’s? CJJ totally went against the norm.

unny, every top 8 seed saved their ace except for Jay.

This narrative is irrelevant. How many of those top 8s only have two starters, an unhealthy/weak bullpen, have an ace who would prefer to stay on schedule, and are potentially facing worse pitching game 2? Gotta compare apples to apples here.

know it was Tulane but Jesus Christ.
I wish people stop with this bull shite. They think Tulane couldn’t hit or didn’t belong in the same park with LSU. That could have easily been a 1 run game and Skenes gone by the 6-7th. Hobert’s play in right was massive because that is a run and a runner on 2nd minimum likely 3rd with 1 out. That’s probably 2 more batters at least 10 pitches.

The guy was unbelievable. 123 pitches and he was still throwing 100 mph on his 122nd pitch. The one kid got lucky and barreled up a fastball that happened to fly over the wall, otherwise, he was damn near perfect. What a beast

While the beast is tossing that hard that late, I don’t think it was remotely close to the best he can be. Tulane barreled up a bunch of balls several nearly took him out. He said as much during his press conference.
His slider was ok, not great. He had no command of his change and that 2 or 4 seamer to lefties didn’t have the usual run.

He has commanded all 4 pitches a couple games this year. Not that many.

He will tell you that. Listen to what he said yesterday versus one of the games from earlier.

When we get to the CWS I am going to laugh my arse off at you people who think you know the team in detail better than the coach.

If I had the first pick in next year's draft.....
The man hit 100 twice in the 9th inning on a hot day!

He's the best Ive seen.

It was correct to start Skenes in the first game by at least 75-25%.. You defefinitely do h not want to go into the losers bracket. The odds are against you if you are in the losers bracket and you absolutely have to play an extra game to win the regional.

If you also delay pitching your best pitcher in the regional he is not in his normal rotation to start the first game of the super regional. Starting rotation rhythm seems Important to a pitcher’s performance. IMO scenes did not pitch his best against AR. Winning the first game of the super regional is really important, you are 1/2 way there and only need to win one of two games left to win the super regional.

Nothing lucky about that. You are selling him short. The kid got ahead and sat on a fastball. It was a poorly located pitch, and the batter clobbered it.

Skenes was great, but far from perfect. In fact, he probably should have given up another run or two, but some great defensive plays and hard hit balls right at defenders gave us some outs.

I do think Skenes helped his draft stock even more by going 124 and still throwing 100 mph.

Could you image the crying on TD if we only scored 7 and Hurd had given up 8.
