1:57 Etling gets demolished.

Taking a closer look at this film, we still have some serious problems pass blocking.

most of his completions were off play action

missed on a few deep throws

if we can get that fixed and he hits a couple of those bombs each game watch out

ETA: I still don't think our receivers route running is where it should be, sometimes they look lackadaisical

Almost every pass was off of play action, fwiw.

He has to start getting out of bounds or sliding. He's taking multiple unnecessary hard hits every game

When the OL gives him time, he's been excellent at surveying the field and finding the open man. He doesn't just lock on to one receiver. That said, he's getting pressured far too often.

LSU likes to drive the ball down the field. That's fine if you can hold up at the LOS. Right now, they're only able to do so on about half the throws. Maybe a few more quick passes will help the OL. Dural is excellent in the open field. Just get him the ball quickly. I don't recall a WR being so good at making people miss all while looking like he's playing in slow motion.

Agreed. Are interior pass blocking was dreadful. Etling did a great job manipulating the pocket to get the ball off. We have some work to do.

Especially if the offensive line its cutting the defensive line on those quick throws. That plus running right at a pass rusher is what slows down a good pass rush.

Mizzou has a speedy front four that excels rushing the passer. Overall, Etling had time on most of his throws. But most importantly, the tweaked offense has natural bailout routes for the QB to use when needed.

If Etling can just take something off of his deep throws into man coverage, our guys will go up and get the ball for him even when he cannot hit them in stride.

I absolutely love the ace formation because it allows the many recruited tight ends to (finally) get onto the field and create mismatches.

In just six days, the staff fixed so much. Exciting times.

TS would have went nuts if he had hit Chark on that opening passing in the 3rd quarter

and he had him too

his most impressive throw was the pass to Jeter near the endzone where he was back pedaling and throwing across his body

I agree, but the hit he took at 1:57 was because we whiffed on a block and let a DE run at him full speed.

I hate the play action calls. They take too long to develop and keep Etling having to make a decision way too fast. He has great pocket awareness though, and doesn't give up on a play.

Well...

If you run for over 400 yards in a game and don't use the play action pass, you're a bad play caller.

Yeah, and we won't be able to do this come November.
