LSU Hired Mateos in Spring of 2016
Perhaps not the most anticipated position hires of the moment for the LSU Tiger faithful are the running backs and/or recruiting coordinators openings. Yet, Arkansas graduate assistant Eric Mateos has been added to the staff, as first reported by Whole Hogs Sports. He will fill the role of assistant offensive line coach at LSU under Jeff Grimes.
Mateos, who has been with the Hogs for three seasons, served as interim offensive line coach in the Liberty Bowl after Sam Pittman left for Georgia. He helped mold an offensive front which allowed the fewest sacks in 2013. Mateos was also previously the recruiting coordinator at Hutchinson Community College .
Before he began his coaching road in 2011 at Southwest Baptist University, Mateos played center there in 2009-10. He also played at Hutchinson JUCO.
The 2017 recruiting class becomes the focus of coaches and fans now that the ’16 class has a bow on it.
The top target for the Tigers in that group, Dylan Moses, decided to transfer to IMG Academy from University High.
The 6-foot-2, 220 pounder was a one-time commit to LSU in 2013 before backing off of his pledge this past August. Moses has a top 5 which includes Alabama, UCLA, Florida, Georgia and Texas. The Tigers appear to have their work cut out for them to secure his services and try to reclaim a lofty spot among the nation’s elite for next year’s class.
It’s still much to soon to be concerned with who is currently committed or not committed at this stage, as we all know.
