Which hire was worse? They both seem to take a winning program and kill it in a rapid manner.

Gumbo in the Football Ops Building or fried chicken in the dugout, take your pick.

smoke took a few seasons until he completely crashed the bus

Ed managed to do it in less than half a season. He wins this going away

Stupid question. Smoke made a CWS. Ogre won't even make a bowl.

I guess O has the edge. At least he hasn't fallen asleep during a game yet.

Smoke is the better ball coach.

As bad as he was, it still took Smoke 5 years to bring LSU baseball to the level of not even reaching the postseason.

In 5 GAMES, Bebe has turned LSU football into a trainwreck.

IMHO, it's not even a question who was a worse hire.

Laval won an SEC title and went to the CWS twice. This isn't even close.

Coach O beat and man handled the Heisman winner in the bowl game. Sun shines on a dogs arse every once in a while.

He had also won a couple of CWS titles here as an assistant and taken NLU/ULM to the postseason as a HC.

At the time, on paper it didn't look like a bad hire. VERY unlike Bebe.

I'm going to need to see Smoke with his shirt off before I can make an informed decision.

Agree, and at least only LSU fans follow baseball so it can't become a national embarrassment.

Smoke was a great coach to an extent, obviously not to the level of Skip...his downfall was a major flaw in the way he and Turtle recruited. LSU lost big parts of their signing classes in 04 and 05 and he never replenished the talent pool after the mass exodus of junior/seniors in 2005.

Yeah missing the tournament with the #1 pick vs. Missing a bowl with consistent top recruiting classes is a tough choice. Alleva should already be out on his arse.
