Next year's team seems stacked at every position except DLine. There we can expect solid starters with AJ and Ego at DT and Rasco and Hunter at DE (based on reports that Hunter is studly), but the depth is worrisome. We have some nice commits for next year, so I'm not worried about DE, but DT is a position that usually requires more physical maturity. I think having four great DTs every year has been our key ingredient.

My question is, does anyone know if Quenton Thomas and Mickey Johnson are up to LSU's recent standards? MJ's offer list Rivals was impressive.

we just picked up a nice DT prospect on Thurs. in Greg Gilmore. I think we'll have the bodies, just gotta get em coached up.

and remember, Logan came almost outta nowhere last yr tp be a damn good player after having been not in the rotation as a freshman.

in Chavis and Brick I trust.

For what it's worth, T-Bob said on the radio the other day that Mickey Johnson is the strongest DT he's ever had to face and that his bull rush was the best he's ever seen. I've read somewhere that he's had nagging injuries the past couple of years and that's preventing him from getting more playing time.

Why is everyone assuming Logan is going pro?

Why is everyone assuming all linemen are going pro? Don't be surprised when one of our stud DE's sticks around.

It's not like Logan would be a 1st round pick, probably not even a 2nd at this point. I don't see why he wouldn't stick around for another season.

I agree. The mock drafts I have seen for this draft have Logan Round 2-3 and some mocks that I have seen for the 2014 draft all have him in round 1. You would think he'd stick around for a 1st round payday. On the other hand, we don't know all the circumstances surrounding his personal life either.

I actually know Mickey, I went to high school with him for when I moved back to
Louisiana. The kid has Louisiana State Records in squat, dead lift, and bench. He has a pretty good motor but he's always had trouble finishing the game so to speak. He is an unbelievable work and no doubt has the mental tools. His issues are size and consistence. He is still a huge man child but for DT in the SEC you gotta be a lil bigger or be like Freak.

I think everyone is overreacting about the D-line.

I hope you're right, but I don't think so. Sam and Downs are gone. About 80% that Mingo goes. I know there are other opinions but mine is that Logan goes. Where he is slotted is beside the point, which is will he improve his lot significantly by staying. I just don't see it. I think he's had two productive seasons. I didn't see a lot of improvement last year to this, so I wouldn't expect much more next year. I call it 70% that he goes. That's all 4 starters, and we also lose Lavar, so 5 of our productive 8. That's a lot. Maybe one of those guys stays. Maybe we have a couple of young guys on the bench who will step up. That still leaves depth problems.

I just don't think Benny Logan will go pro after this year. He is NFL talent no doubt but he needs another year.

Changing the topic slightly, but what are the chances that Minter or Reid come back?

Probably pretty good. Lot of really good LB's in this draft.

Reid

Not very good. I would be shocked if he came back.

Can't imagine Reid coming back and, although I admire his play, I'm not too worried about losing Reid because of the guys behind him. Minter is a hammer in the middle. I expect him to go, and we'll miss him if he does, but we have some talent there as well.

Reid is not projected any where near where he was thought to be to start the season.

He's behind about 4 other safeties at his position IMO. Coming back could get him a 1st or 2nd round grade.

We shall see.

I think Maclin is getting a redshirt this year. He played Clowney in practice the week of the USC game and Josh D. talked about how fast he was and he gave the OL a great look that week. I think he may be ahead of Allen(just a guess) but we haven't heard much because of the redshirt.
