I agree with the consistency component. But how many double digit win years without a championship defines mediocrity? Or does it? Is it OK to be consistently better than most?

It's not mediocre. Championships are really hard to win in college football. It takes a lot of things going right during the course of a season to get a shot at a championship.

The problem is people look at the unprecedented success of our division foe and expect that to be the norm here. Of course that's the goal, but realistically what they have done in the past 4 or 5 years is historic and not the norm in present day college football.

How many teams won 10 games last year

I think something like 21 of the top 25 ended up with double digit wins last year.

Double digit wins with this team, taking everything into consideration, has got to be considered a positive.
If we get to double digits next year, you'd have to say the same thing given what we're going to lose offensively.

I attended Boston College and if you could somehow guarantee that fan base several 10 win seasons in a row they would be ecstatic over the prospect.

However, at some point they would expect the success to produce an ACC championship. Championships and not the wins would become the new desire.

Success breeds need for greater success. Nothing wrong with that.

LSU hasn't had a losing season since 1999. I bet not many schools can say that. And they have all been "solid" winning seasons...with at least 8 wins every year.

Florida probably thought they were immune from losing seasons. Look where they are.

I am exceptionally happy with LSU's program. frick the "you are settling for mediocrity" assholes on this board.

First goal should always be national championship.

False. There are always outside sources you can't control. The SEC championship is the only championship you can. Win, and you've got it. National Championship takes more lobbying and style points, plus help from other teams losing.

Without Bama in the equation I think everything feels different. They are providing an unreasonable measuring stick at the moment.

Y'all are a bunch of spoiled fans. Please go jump on Bama's bandwagon. The level of dominance this program has put out the last 10 years may NEVER been seen again at LSU. Enjoy 10 win seasons. Ask Tenn Miami USC West Virginina Virgina Tech how they would like a 10 win season in the toughest conference.

Double Digit Wins

Does having a double digit win season define success? Seems like I've heard it used as a landmark over the past couple years.

I thought the first goal was SEC West, second SEC overall, third national championship?

Well considering that LSU has had 9 double digit winning seasons since 2001; but BEFORE 2001, LSU had only had 2 10-win seasons since 1961! (1987,1996).
(Of course college teams have been playing 12 game regular seasons since the early 2000s.)

I will not look back on 2013 as a failure or success; to me it's just another filler year between national championships (i hope).

Then LSU Football, throughout it's history, would have been a miserable fricking place is all bu three season were simply filler.

Hell...so would everyone else's program for that matter...even the one over in Tuscaloosa.

I consider it a success if it's 10 wins in the regular season, yes I do. We have the most dominant division in all of college football. For the last three years, there have been at least 3 teams each year with a 10-2 or better reg season. Now though, you can't be sure who will be on top.

LSU
AUBURN
BAMA
TAMU
ARKANSAS
OLE MISS

All have a legit shot of taking the spot.

Ole Miss is starting to get the recruits to compete.

Beleima (sp) will not be on the bottom tier for long no matter what you guys think.

Auburn went from 3-9 to 11-1 with a coaching change, an UGA QB recruit, turned DB, turned JUCO QB, turned Auburn running QB, and a leaky hole defense.

LSU is in the running for a class of recruits that are at least thrice as good as the 2009 haul.

TAMU has all the offense it needs to win games and its defense will be good to compete in a year or two because Sumlin can get the recruits.

Bama is Bama.

Totally agree. We have won 2 national championships in the last 10 years. If that's not above mediocre I don't know what is. How many other teams can say that. Not many.
