Reid has a ton of potential to get better. He's only played basketball for a little over three years. I get just as frustrated with his play as most of you, but pump the brakes.

An off season could do him a ton of good and he has the potential to be a star.

Things I see for improvement:

Strength training - he needs to get stronger with the ball. Guards are tying him up under the basket.

Awareness - he's 7' tall, but has a bad tendency of bringing the ball low on the block and/or using a power dribble when it's completely unnecessary. Catch the ball, keep it high, go straight to the rim.

Free throw shooting - if he does the 2 things above, he will be shooting more free throws and needs to convert. If he does this, less people will attack him and he will get more point blank finishes.

Defense - he's simply too new to basketball to understand what constitutes solid defense and proper positioning. He gets out of position easily, which leads to his foul trouble. This makes him even more tentative on both ends, vicious cycle.

He has decent mid range jumper and can hit a three if left open. He's long and pretty athletic for his size. I think if the above can happen, his confidence will continue to rise and his game will improve exponentially.

I agree, but that isn't helping our situation.
I thought five star meant a HS Recruit was ready to contribute as a Freshman?
I wish him the best and hope he develops into a super star.

He didn’t rate himself a 5 star.

Criticize the recruiting services. Support the guy that could have gone just about anywhere and chose LSU.

It's not helping lsu right now, but could in the future. I would prefer a talent like Reid that puts in the work and becomes something as opposed to a Ben Simmons type that comes in with all the talent in the world and just doesn't care.

Ratings and recruitment are tough at all levels. Nothing is a sure shot at any level, but people going in raw on the kid is just getting old. We have what we have, which isn't a bad group to have. Just need to recognize that and work hard with those tools.

He’s a misfit toy on this particular team. And his game is still rough around the edges. That said i agree with some of the commentators who say they eventually see a 12/8 player in there. We’ll see if it happens and if it happens here or elsewhere

Just to clarify: Are you are saying we can't criticize any players for a poor performance? Or does it just apply to freshman players? Or just underperforming, highly recruited players?

Did someone say they hated Reid?

All I see is people saying he was overrated with 5 stars coming out if High School.

You can do what you want, but people bashing him for being a 5 star recruit and not having the season that others are having is assanine. He needs to be developed. He may never be better than he is this year, or he may be a superstar.

I think crapping on him for not being what we think he should be is Busch league. We all want lsu to win, hope he gets the developmental coaching he needs.

FIVE STAR does NOT equal Lottery Pick as a ONE AND DONE. It seems LSU Basketball Fans don't give a five star room to grow in Basketball, but do in Football. Its also a lot easier to bring a freshman along in Football than it is in Basketball.

His whole demeanor is just strange. His body language and reactions are like he just doesn’t have much experience playing basketball.

He looks like he just got thrown into a pick up game for the hell of it when he doesn’t usually play.

Agreed, but that's exactly the case here. It's not "like" he doesn't have much experience playing basketball, he doesn't!

He started playing in 10th grade, so 3+ years of experience.

No one is saying (or no one should be saying) he can't and won't improve. Certainly some raw traits are there.

But for THIS team, in THIS season, he's not contributing much, if anything, in games vs. better competition. Should he get playing time this year? Absolutely. But not to the extent guys like O'Neal, Fudge and Colbert (who hasn't played at all) get little to now minutes.

He's not a dominant 5 start center right now. That's ok. Neither was Walker Kessler last season at UNC. But if this team is trying to win games THIS season, extended minutes for Reid is not helping them do so.

No one said lotto pick one and done. But if you are an incoming 6’11 240 pound 5 star C, I expect you to put up respectable numbers in SEC play.

He’s literally averaging 3.3 rebounds and 4 points a game in SEC play as a sure fire starter. That is no bueno.

We literally have 0 post presence on the offense or defensive end and he’s a big reason for that.

I understand that everyone takes different amount of time to develop but I mean he should be able to put up between 8-10 points per game and between 6-8 rebounds a game and he’s not even close to that.

I'm glad I'm not Wade and have to make those decisions. Fudge may be equally as raw as Reid. I love O'Neal's aggression, and hopefully Reid can get to that level.

Out of the three, we don't have a best option to be completely honest. We recruited potential, and that's okay, but it need to be developed. I agree there should be more of a rotation, but that 5 spot is the glaring weakness.

I think I really like Reid the teammate dude is always the most hyped on the bench and I know he is kinda a goofball on the court but last night he was playing hard. it just isn't translating which sucks especially for a young kid... Especially since this team was probably counting on him to be a 10 point plus scorer in the out of conference.

Agree, he "should", but is not. It's not his fault he was a raw 5 star, it's not his fault Wade gives him the lions share of the minutes. It will be his fault if he doesn't work hard and improve himself, but there's not much you can do when you're in the thick of the season.

Splitting time with him and O'Neal, could be a solution, but Wade is obviously seeing something to the contrary. I like O'Neal, but he has many of the same deficiencies as Reid. Main difference is his aggression, which this team needs badly.

Yes, that is it exactly. You have no right to criticize any payer. You can say a player is not playing well tonight or something of that nature. But the constant Reid threads calling him hot garbage, over rated , soft, etc etc. are getting old. He didn't rate himself in high school. Its not like he gave us an inflated resume. If Wade didn't think he is the best choice when he is in the game then he would not play. So lets support the guy instead of shitting on him every game and every foul or missed shot. Not every freshman blows up, it takes time for most of them. These comments are not original and serve no purpose except to create a mind set about certain players and our monkey see monkey do fans show how insufferable they are.

He's slow and can't jump. That's not fixable, and will always be a huge deterrence to him getting better defensively.

I think he can and will improve offensively, he just needs to learn how to use his big frame better.

he shouldn't be playing more than O'Neal or Fudge right now.
Hell i wouldn't of cared of if they put Ezewero in the game last night. He's probably the strongest big we have. Tell him to block Tsheibwa out and not let him get another rebound, and if you get the ball on offense, give it to someone else.
