Don’t let O hire ANYBODY!!

I’m hearing the name Derek Mason a lot which makes me want to throw up in my mouth. It’s yet another safe hire for O because he doesn’t have to look over his shoulder. O lacks self-confidence and self-awareness. That’s what happens when you realize that you are under-qualified for your current job.
Go freaking hire Marcus Freeman. That guy wants to be a head coach. I don’t care if he is here for a year or two.. you’re gonna get his best shot. He wants O’s job. Hire people who want your job. LSU is proving ground. You win here, you get a HC job.
Same goes for offense. Go get Tom Manning or somebody like that. Your offenses rolls.. you might wind up in the freaking NFL.
Don’t let O hire a damn person. He will never hire somebody who scares him.. he treats this job like it’s own personal social club. We all need to be pushed to be our best. If this really is his dream job, then he needs to start treating it like such and put the program in the best place to succeed.

I agree, especially since O has to rely on his assistants so much since he’s never been a coordinator

Exactly. Everybody who is hired in the Coordinator position should be a future HC candidate.

It doesn't matter now. They hired O at a modest salary with incentives. No one wanted him. He was not in demand to be hired anywhere else. He says he will hire the best and brightest coordinators. And yes he wins a national title on the back of Aranda and Brady and mostly Burrow who may be the best college qb ever and never touched again. But then they go and give him a raise to 6.5 million.
He hired Pelini who hadn't coached in several years and who the game has easily passed by. Still has Ensminger as a coordinator with an offense that is not near good enough to win a title. And now people are clamoring for him to hire a passing game coordinator. What happened to best and brightest? Hire a young elite coordinator on both sides and O can stick to recruiting.

Also hearing O wants Nielsen and LSU wants Mason. Orgeron wanted Odom (who declined) and Woodward suggested Pelini. Let O sink or swim.

It’s really easy to watch a game and see which coaches are effective against the spread. It’s really easy to look at the end of the year and see whose defenses did well.
This isn’t rocket science. We were promised great coordinators with the hiring of O. That was his promise. Great Coordinators want HC jobs.

Nielsen is his buddy. I actually like the coach.. but Nielsen is too comfy. O needs to feel uncomfortable. Freeman would do that.

I suggest letting the experts on the Rant hire the next DC, OC and even the HC when that's open.

I thought at first this was a joke, but I can see you're serious. I am not exactly confident that Orgeron will make good hires, but if you're not going to let the head coach pick his staff, then you need to get rid of him. Forcing people on him is a nearly guaranteed recipe for a disaster. Having said that you can try to make it a collaborative process.
