Yet was still #1 in the SEC. It doesn't take much to correct the defense but it's going to take a miracle to fix that offense

Truths meant to dampen other people's joy is the exact definition of a downer.

If I recall correctly the Tiger defense was #1 in the SEC.

Is there a stat for this the only includes conference play? I would like to see it. We allowed 306 YPG. Arkansas was 6th with 345. That's one or two "big plays" in garbage time against a non P5 opponent.

We shite the bed in big games. Not to discount our success but numbers can be misleading. Just glancing at ESPN, we were 2nd in scoring out of SEC teams, with Bama .2 points/game behind. We were also 10th in INTs and 4th in fumble recoveries. Not bad, but not great.

Some new blood couldn't hurt.

When are the offensive changes coming? Offense was the problem not the defense.

We lost a shite ton of talent on offense this year. I'll give Cam a pass. Our playcalling improved big time in the last 2 or 3 games, we just didn't get ideal production from the QB. This year is judgement time.

It won't take a miracle to make some improvements in a the passing game.

If you're looking to be ranked highly in passing yards per game, it's not gonna happen. We don't run that kind of offense. But if we can get to 60 to 65% completion percentage and get the INTs lower, we will have what we need to compete for championships.

5 losses this year & 4 were on the defense.

Exactly. "Left for dead" Jarrett Lee led this team to arguably the greatest season we've ever seen (save for one game) and he wasn't really that good.

He wasn't a world beater, but outside of two passes at Bama, he played very well for us in 2011. His TD:INT ratio was very nice after the first 8 games.

Agreed. He was perfect for what we needed. He was baptized by fire in 2008 and it killed him. Fast forward to 2011 and he's playing flawlessly within a system that didn't ask him to do too much. Everyone shite on Stud but I think he did a great job in 2011, all things considered. Last minute OC after Krags went down. Last minute QB change to a guy that couldn't get it done 3 years prior. He ran an offense that made Lee look pretty good.

I can't decide if that made Lee look good or made Crowton look shitty. Likely a mixture of both.

Miles has shown he can change his ways when he has to do so. I think the O hire shows that. I have dogged him for being slow to change but he does after he proves himself wrong. He won't go down without a fight and I an happy to see that, Offensive changes are coming!

Common misconception. Defense alone lost more than a handful of games over the past couple years.

Even so, the biggest problem LSU football has is QB play...by a long shot.

BH needs to step TFU and be a leader, do what's needed on and off the field and gain some confidence from the players, coaches and himself! Needs to work hard this off season to perfect his game managing skills and we need to work his arse into games. Jennings isn't our guy period!!! By them not really going after any other QBs I have to believe that they think he's got what it takes. He needs to let the game come to him and Cam needs to help him by involving the entire Offense. We have weapons that can be used, the TEs, FBs, need to show MD how to go up and fight for a jump ball, LF should get 20 to 25 touches, the Oline could use some work too. The linebackers and D line could play much better, and that's why I think we got these 2 guys!!! Hope it pays off and all comes together next year. GT

Because the Offense could not get a first down and take control of the game, we continually wore our D down and eventually they score. And I don't like the hire, so I am not caught up in it for sure.

MSU first quarter we won TOP with 9 and a half minutes. Defense gave up 2 fast TDs. That's not on the offense in quarter 1.

Same thing for Auburn. We split TOP at 7 and a half minute, but defense allowed quick TDs, and we end up down 17-7. That's on the defense quarter 1.

Notre Dame game the defense allows an 8+ minute TD drive to open the game, and 15 play almost 6 minute FG drive to lose the game. Defense gave up 11 of 17 third downs. Being on the field for 37 minutes is on them more than anything the offense did.

And a couple wins were almost blown despite good performances by the offense.

In the Florida game, the offense had many more first downs than UF, won TOP with 36+ minutes. We had to come back late against a very mediocre offense. Yes, 14 points were due to Dubose's punt returns. So if you want to blame someone in this game, look at the special teams.

And the A&M game, where our offense had over 500 yards and dominated TOP with 41+ minutes, the defense almost allowed A&M to come back in the fourth quarter. They we lucky to not be called offsides on the INT that sealed the game (no I don't take that play away from them, but they were lucky). The defense had already began doing what it did best under Chavis: allowing very quick scores in the fourth quarter. They gave up a 77 TD drive in under 3 minutes, and had let A&M get to midfield in 46 seconds and with two timeouts left before the INT. I know we all were thinking the same thing before that INT. Chavis's defense was about to blow this game.

The defense definitely gets credit for some wins, like Ole Miss for sure. But a lot of the bad situations they were in was their own doing. Acting like the offense was responsible for them being tired or something is intellectually dishonest when you look at actual stats.

bullshite. The few things they did were put in Beckwith, Adams, and let the young DL grow. The offense improved after the OL figured out the new scheme, and they centered on a main RB.

What that tells me, is that the right kids need to be on the field, and experience makes all the difference. Get Harris out there next year with a year of study and practice, and some game time already under his belt. He will learn on the go, and by the time we get to the bye, will be seasoned good enough to take on Bama.

Defense needs new blood as well. From coaches excited to be here and to young, hungry players who want to make an impact. Guys like Valentine, Teuhema, and Bower should cause much more disruption for the QB. Beckwith with Debo and possibly Feist or Riley on the other end. Toliver ready to lockdown a side with White doing the same on the other. Adams in his second year only going to get better. Add in Thomas coming back to the nickel role. Man this defense can get so much better.

You people are fools. That #1 defense was also product of LSU having one of the highest TOP in the country.
