Watching the Ole Miss game at the end when we could have burned some clock we were jacking up shots early in the shot clock. Now again with the A&M game. Is this lack of coaching?

with a good lead equals

It's poor discipline and something that a timeout and an arse chewing or a couple minutes on the bench can fix easily.

It always comes back to the coaches, but that is something that is taught at every level. You can say the coach shouldn't have such and such in the game, but then when someone who can't handle the ball or shoot free throws blows it in the end, its same ending, different scenario. Watched it happen at four different levels this past week, with three HS basketball teams and then LSU on Saturday, and I know its something that is practiced and discussed time and time again. Kids just get excited or carried away and get away from what they are coached.

TL;DR, it still falls back on coaches.

It's just the players biting at open opportunities. They just need to have greater discipline and not take the first open look.

They did drain the clock on some possessions, but it needs to be a full team effort for it to hold over.

Dale invented the 4 corners and JJ was there..
..good way to kill the clock as long as it is not used too early

Ha, he certainly didn't invent it but he liked to use it. Glad the shot clock all but killed that crap.

I think a great portion of our inability to keep a lead late in the game is a mixture of the following:
1) 5 players play most of the game (they get tired towards the end)
2) The less players coming off the bench, the more foul trouble the starters will be in. (Fouls are inevitable)
3) We are an up-tempo style team who likes to run (which contributes to #1)

Edited to include the fact that we bring 2 or 3 timeouts back to the locker room at the end of the game. (When they could be used as rest for our players)

Its hard to say how much of this is on the players working hard enough rather than coaches. It feels like CJJ wants to play 5-6 players only, perhaps because he's worried the youngsters aren't ready yet.
I personally would like to see 7-8 with significant minutes.
I think Patterson, Bridgewater, and Epps have shown they can handle the pressure. With some time, Big Elbert and Malone can contribute too. Unfortunately though, it looks like our hopes for senior leadership from Odo ain't happening.

This team is rather young. Give them time and it'll get better. They're headed in the right direction and with the recruiting that is happening, the better days are ahead of us for sure.

Dean Smith at North Carolina originated the Four Corner offense.

Forcing the shot clock into the college game. The same shot clock that needs to be dropped to 30 seconds.
