I've only seen the gif - looked a little ticky-tack to me. Were the refs trying to make up for the TD, or are the SEC refs just terrible as usual?

Terrible call! The DB was in the act of tackling when the QB started to slide. No way he could have adjusted.

Only if he was ejected in the 2nd half, and then he would only have to miss the 1st half of next weeks game.
