They also got into our red zone with a 50-yard completion, followed by three straight runs yielding a net loss, and had to settle for a field goal.
the LSU fans here who still worship saban wont like this but a lot of that is on him.

the play you're talking about was basically a go route with Howard, the tight end. he starts on the 25 and ends up near the 15. its about a 60 yard sprint, a long way for a TE. he should probably come out and catch his breath.

but he doesn't. instead he's kept in and lined up on the right side to block. the play goes that way but he more or less just falls down.

at this point he's clearly limping. he should definitely come out now.

but he doesn't. instead he's lined up on the left side to block, and again they run the play to his side.

that was not a good idea. he misses his block completely and bama loses 10 yards.

one play later they have to try a field goal with a kicker who already missed his first two attempts. he does manage to hit this one, but they go up 7 instead of 11.

saban has actually done a few strangely dumb things this year, a couple of them in that game.

The key to running against Ole Miss will be to do it right at them to try and neutralize their speed and athleticism. It's why it is so important to be stout there. Nkemdiche is a great player, but he is at his best when he is getting into the backfield.

IF LSU can execute guard to guard I think they will have some success. The key will be to be patient, keep it competitive and wait for a big play.

Their secondary is their main weakness just like Bama, and offensive line is not great but ok just like Bama. Really almost be playing the same team twice. Question is how do we exploit the weakness of that with QB that can not throw a damn pass under 20 yards. defensive to too quick to let him sit back and think about it forever as Jennings likes to do.

If we play Harris a lot, let both QB's run a lot, and Bo Wallace is not all world like he was against us last year we can win.

Not happening and the sooner fans move past this, the better they will be.

Ole Miss is a defense that wants to capitalize on turnovers and INTs, which is exactly what LSU doesn't want to do. Expect ALOT of running from LSU and ALOT of two TE, I-formation.

If we mix in some one TE, read option and the occasional first down play action; that will be about as far as we get into the playbook.

Shake, I hadn't studied the film on that series but thanks for posting it. Yeah, Howard looks a little gassed, but look at the rest of it. On the tackle for loss, there is no wideout on the left and our boundary corner (Hilton, #28) is free to come up and make the stop even if Howard made his block on the DE. maybe not for as big a loss, but still would have stuffed the run.

That clip also demonstrates what I mentioned earlier in this thread. Look at #94, Gross, an "undersized" 250 pound nose tackle. He lives in opponents' backfields every week. Also, this series was late in the 3rd quarter when D-lines are supposed to be gassed.

My point was that it's very difficult to run against this defense, even by a strong O-line like Bama's. They got 3 points on that series only because a rare blown coverage allowed a long pass, not because of their running game.

Hey, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. We had held Bama to 3.8 per rush and I expected about the same from y'all, but you did a full yard per carry better. Well done.

But I was correct that we wouldn't give up many points, and that our weakness is our offense, not our defense. You and Bama both gained about the same yardage; you just did it more on the ground than they did. You scored exactly the same number of points that Bama's offense scored. The difference in outcomes was that your defense played lights out and held us to only 7 points.
