Does Alleva really deserve a chance to hire the 3rd men's hoops coach?

If anything you think his ties to Coach K could have given him some insight no other AD would have.

Do you really think he had the final say to hire JJ?

Well then, if that's the case, LSU is in a lot of trouble as an athletic department!

Absolutely not. He has proven time and again that he cannot run a coaching search. The fact that he is still employed is clear a sign of how far LSU athletics is about to fall. Dark, dark times are ahead.

What exactly are the other realistic options at this point?

How do some of you guys get out of the bed every morning with such a doom and gloom outlook on life?I don't know if LSU sports are going to go up down or stay the same from this point forward. It is also completely out of my control so might as well look forward as positive as possible.

Yes, it is his job. People need to get over their hate for Alleva, dude probably works 80 hours a week running the entire athletic department. It's the coaches he hires job to win. Our athletic department is as profitable and visible as ever. He also has to perform his job with a lot of meddling.

As I have read here previously, alleva did the right thing by bringing Johnny back this year. There is now no question about him not deserving the job in the first place, and he can hopefully do a proper search this time around.

And as I always say in Alleva threads to the geniuses that want him gone, who would you replace him with? Could you even name one legimate candidate? Or do you want him fired, so the other guy that you think needs to be fired can replace him?

It would be hard for Joe Alleva to find someone worse than Johnny Jones at coaching basketball. How am I doing?

It sad when you have an AD who is too scared to make a decision on his own

Did Alleva hire Trent or was that Skip's doing on the way out? I know that all happened along the same timeline, but I don't remember how that shook out specifically.

LMFAO when people use this as an excuse for alleva.

"No dale, collis, clarence. We are not hiring a mediocre sun belt coach with 0 NCAAT wins who was also involved in getting this program hit with draconian sanctions. Get fricked."

Yes, LSU's visibility has been GREAT over the past few years. Let's see:

1. Alleva creates a coup to replace Miles at the end of the 2015, or at the very least he was completely silent when information was swirling in the last month of the season, so much so that fans, tv analyst and even Miles himself though the A&M game was his final game at LSU. There is a grand send off after the game only to have Joe come in and triumphantly declare Miles the coach at LSU for 2016. Now maybe Joe wasn't completely to blame for that debacle, but his complete silence played a part in how it was perceived

2. LSU basketball become a laughing stock after they become the only team ranked in the (coaches) preseason top 25 to miss out on the NCAAT. They then decline to play in the NIT. For two months after you hear about how Ben Simmons is going to be the #1 pick and how Jones is a joke of a coach at LSU for being able to do virtually nothing with him. The program, fans, etc had clearly quit on Jones. But what does Joe do? He retains Jones which leads to this year's disaster, a disaster that probably could have been avoided.

3. After failing to do so in 2015, Joe fires Miles 4 games into 2016. The consensus opinion is doing so gives he and LSU a jump on the competition in finding a new coach. He zeros in on his guy and then gets angry when his guy (who has all of the leverage in the negotiations) says he wants to talk to another school. Then, before the regular season even ends, Joe hires a coach that he could have hired TODAY if he wanted to. The SEC and nation laughs at LSU. Great visibility

Take off the purple and gold glasses. LSU has been looked at as a dysfunctional athletic dept and university over the last few years. Obviously Alleva is not completely to blame for that, but he hasn't done anything positive of note in LSU's big-money sports. (Sorry, no one really gives a shite about gymnastics, tennis, softball, golf, etc. We are glad they are winning, but that's not paying the bills.)

I would argue that Alleva is best known for 3 things:

1. Jumping to conclusions and screwing over the Duke lacrosse team and coach

2. A failed coup to fire Les Miles

3. Two (at best) underwhelming men's basketball hires.

You are the one being hypercritical of what he has done at LSU, not me. Half the programs in the country are either cheating or covering up rape scandals, yet LSU is the laughing stock because of how we ultimately let our FB coach go and our hoops team not being good? Get over yourself clown.

Again, name his replacement. You can't, because you can only be critical of what has happened in the past. Even go so far as to bring up Duke when discussing how he has done at LSU.

Per the internet, Alleva officially began working at LSU on April 8, 2008 and Trent Johnson was officially named HC on April 10, 2008.

But, to the OP's point. I don't believe Alleva will be fired this year, which means the only two options are let him make the next MBK hire or keep JJ for another year.

Replacements: Scott Woodward, Herb Vincent, Dan Radicovich...All 3 have extensive LSU Ties. All Have worked here and understand the climate/powers that be. And ultimately I think all 3 would gladly take the job.
