I'll never understand why teams are expected to stop playing offense. to me, it's more of an insult when the winning team starts to take it easy. Like when LSU kneeled it on ole miss with like 5 mins left.
This!!
It's a far bigger insult for the offense to "show pity" on the defense and only run off tackle, or worse, take a knee.
If I'm on the defense of the losing team, that would piss me off big time.
It's the defense's job to stop the offense. If you don't want to get blown out, play better defense!!

Exactly. And besides, does it make the losing team feel that much better to lose by 3 TDs instead of 4?
What probably should happen, and what I wish Les had done more of, is out the backups in but run the regular offense. Like in 2011, in all those blowouts, let Mett play and let him pass.

When he was at FL, Spurrier said it was not HIS job to stop his team from scoring.
Lou Holtz used to say the same thing. If I was a coach, my attitude would be that I'll quit after you quit. If your team keeps playing, so will mine.

Ah yes. Who could forget that gem.

I would pay $$$$$ to know what Les' reaction was to being told that Petrino fell off a motorcycle with a Co-Ed on the back lol
We need a Les Miles autobiography...and he'll refer to Petrino as the Ar-Kansas coach.

I have a coaching buddy of mine that said he kept his foot on the gas to give his colleague across the field a clear understanding of what he needed to be working on before his next game. I always thought that was funny as hell.
He also said that he was never going to call his offense or defense off to help anyone feel better about themselves. His responsibility was to make his guys better through high quality repetitions.

Taking off the gas gives your players the wrong message. It breeds complacency and may lead to lost games when the players perceive they have the game in hand.
If you're worried about running up the score play second or third string but never allow them to play anything less than full speed.
There are some examples of rubbing in wins for sure:
Tuberville doing a late onside kick when up substantially.
Miles kneeling with 5 minutes left. (Loved it)
I saw a high school team do a fake-victory kneel in the last seconds only to throw a bomb for a TD.

I'd start using the whole play clock each down. Shortens the game so you don't risk an epic comeback.

Did these injuries happen while trying to have sex on his Harley while hitting 75 on the interstate? Just asking.

Petrino was hacked that we attempted a pass to the end zone with a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter. Looked over at Miles and said, FYMF. You know that loser hasn't forgotten it.
frick Petrino, he had his defensive starters in after the game was absolutely decided and was blitzing every down. So Les scored again & he got pissed. frick him.

If you have to ask, you are too stupid to even bother with an explanation.

frick petrino....after all the years of him rolling up the numbers against lesser competition.
