Still young, but even at the often talked about LB position, we have numerous solid players that I think will rally around Baker's leadership.

I just hope the D-line is NASTY. I love the years we have a nasty D-line, it just makes everything else alot easier.

I've got these numbers to be as close as I can find the info.

Returning on the D side of the ball:

31 Players returning have a recorded stat in a game last year.

16 players started a least one game last year.

A breakdown: DL- 6 players, LB-4 players and DB-6 players.

Returning are the leading player with Ints. (Claiborn-5), Forced Fumbles (Mathieu-5), Fumble Recoveries (Manthieu-3), and Passes Broken up(Manthieu-7).

We also return 24 of the top 30 tacklers from last year.

Not just the Dline. The trenches in general. Most overlooked positions in the game and it's arguably the most important. Everything starts here. You get an advantage from the start and, like you said, everything is much easier. Were looking good on both sides.

The DB's in this class are giving them a run. Still need a few more years with this class.

It is tough to compare 2003 to this year until this season plays out. So many of the guys on the 03 defense came out of nowhere.

As much as I love our team, I do have to say that we are still unproven defensively but talented. I like our depth but we are replacing some great seasoned players. I hope our younger guys can perform consistly.

In terms of depth, this year holds it's own IMO. 2003 was obviously one of the best defenses in Lsu history but Chavis defenses have been better each of his first 2 years. I expect his defense in year 3 to improve as well and could be special.

I see the players we have lost as being no different than the players lost on defense EVERY year. Big shoes to fill, but they get filled. Period. Seems this time around, we have a lot of guys ready to step up.

So do I. If you compare what we think the 2011 defense is going to be right now to what we thought about the 2003 defense during that Summer...I would say the depth is probably better on this one. But we'll have to see how it plays out.

I trhink the Tigers are a little short of depth at DT.

Brockers, Downs, Ego, Logan, D. Johnson and Freak. Then you have Mickey Johnson in for the Red-Shirt...
