Do you consider Miles aggressive? Unorthodox?

honest question
while we do sprinkle in trick plays/fakes here or there, in my view our overall gameplan (on offense and defense)is quite conservative
i don't see nearly enough of these plays to offset our general gameplan. hell even when we're down in games, we don't get too aggressive.
that's my opinion...how do you see it? i will admit i always chuckle a little when i hear people talk about how miles is "crazy" or how he's "the mad hatter," when i think he's rather conservative. earlier today i saw somebody said he's unorthodox...i have to ask, how?

it's not even about choice of player. it's about choice of system, breakdown of plays, etc
EVERYONE would agree after 2006 that he was conservative (even after the philosophy shift in the UTenn game)
not much has changed since then. Bo P was rather conservative (rush 4, drop 7 zone), malleveto took the same system. chavis isn't known as an aggressive DC. crowton runs a horizontal spread, but at LSU he runs mostly i-form from jimbo's playbook.

He's big 10 minded and always will be. That will always be the mold from which his entire coaching/gameplaning style will be carved from

I truly believe that you sometimes ask questions not because you seek an answer, but because you want to see how many pages you can fill that ego of yours with. You got 8 pages going out of that impossible R J Jackson scenerio.
Seriously, why do you care what other idiots around here think about this particular subject?

*traditional big10
i'll give the big10 credit, at least in terms of offensive philosophy. they adopted the spread and spread option all across their conference long before any other BCS conference did

I think this is one of those threads where SFP doesn't properly define his terms, has already made up his mind, and just shoots down everyone's suggestions for 6+ pages.

i like to try to understand how other people think and what goes into their thought process
do i expect some retarded answers? yes. i rarely even mock those anymore. i may just put in response
i'm sure there are some smart/relatively smart people who think miles is aggressive. i want to know why. it has to be more than just the occasional trick play or fake
baloo, for instance, doesn't think that the fakes are "aggressive," if memory serves. he think they're calculated. i agree
and the fourth downs against UF don't count. going for the TD was the right move there, and was aggressive, but all the other ones we HAD to go for. time was running out and we were down. you always go for 4th downs when time is running out and you're down

unconventional. sometimes he reminds me of my play calling on madden. just wait, one day you'll see him use the punt block play on an obvious running down...

i have somewhat
our D under miles has always been zone-based and mainly rush 4, drop 7. we haven't been man/blitz heavy at all really
our O has always been based around the traditional i-form, grind it out style. even when we had JR, early, bowe, and buster, we didn't pass it that much. we tried to run, run, run out of the i-form, even if it didn't work

He sometimes bugs the shite out of me. He's the coach and knows his personnel better than any of us, but with the horses he has on offense I sure wish he would let em run every once in a while

I'm trying to think of top programs that are "aggressive" or "unorthodox". Florida on offense maybe?
When I think of an unorthodox coach I think of mike leach or Paul Johnson. They're usually at the type of program that has to Do something different in order to make up for their lack of talent.

UF's super blitz scheme on D is quite aggressive. UT and OU as well (even tho OU's scheme often sucks against non-big12 teams)
OU: spread
UT: spread and spread option
UF: spread option
they try to put up a shitload of points on everyone, and they do it in different ways
USC is very aggressive on D and runs a pro-style like LSU, but they set up deep passes and use RB screens much more than LSU. they anticipate the D calls and try to set up the D. we seem to be more of a "we're going to do this over and over, out-muscle you, and you have to stop us" mentality

using the top teams is a good way to look at it
if we assume these are the to programs in the country
LSU
UF
USC
OU
UT
OSU
which would LSU be more aggressive than? OSU. would you put any of the others below LSU?

quote:I dunno man, in bowl games it seems like Les tries to pile it on. OSU, throwing a TD pass up 14 with like 2 minutes. Fake punt late against Ga Tech, and the deep pass to Lafell late in the game.

I think when he smells blood, he goes for it, but I do agree that he doesn't try that from the get go many times

So Miles 4th down percentage and mindset to play for victory as compared to his counterpart Saban who LOVED to play D and kick fg's doesn't fit in the agressive category?
