I don't understand Les Miles. I like him as a person; I think he is a super face for LSU as a HC. Except his coaching seems so off-beat and consistently inexplicable. There's always a wheel off somewhere. DC one year, OC another, QB some years. OL or DL. It's so very confusing why he seems to be ok with the loose ends and the bizarre game plans that pull defeat out from the jaws of victory by insisting on repeating plays that don't work, and discarding plays and players that do. He is for me an enigma. And while I want changes, if he could somehow pull it all together, nobody would be happier than me to see Les Miles and LSU succeed. Like if somehow he'd been able to pull out something on 1/9 that stymied the Red Midget and his boys. Oh well, chalk it up...

I agree with all that Jawja. There's a recurring post here that lists all of his positive numbers on this site.

I can't for the life of me figure out how he's managed that given some of the things I see and hear, but some how, some way he has.

I hope the list can stay impressive on the back end. I would as you be happy about that.

I understand Cam Cameron calls the plays but it's obvious that Miles tells him to run it or pass it most plays. Why? Because if not, Cameron would most definitely pass it the majority of the time.

Unbelievable. It's rare that I defend Miles but that thought process is ridiculous.

quote:

Here is my question... Why does Miles run the stupid arse I formation so many damn times. Yes, we have one of the best RB in the nation but why does Miles call 2 run plays on 1st and 2nd down and then we are once again in the 3 and 7ish position. LSU was 5 for 7 on 3rd downs and going into the game we were i think 58% on the year which was the highest in the nation.... So why not pass it more?

So you think we have one of the top running backs in the nation and you have a problem with the "stupid arse I formation"?

quote:

Then, with some momentum, we call the famous I Formation toss back to Hill or whatever and we lose 3 yards and also lose the somewhat momentum we had. Why not pass it and find Landry in the slot or maybe a TE. Miles and this stupid I Formation needs to go when its not needed. I cant take it anymore.

You make it sound so simple. We had a short field against a Saban defense. If Mett would have thrown a pick, you would be bitching about not handing it off to one of the best running backs in the country, instead of passing.

How some people still defend Les is beyond me
You must not read this litany of amusement on a regular basis. Those that defend the LSU head football coach at any and all cost are many on here.

I'll bring out my TERMINATOR line again. "That's what they do. That's all that they do."

How many of these cheerleader types that defend the company line are LSUAD "plants", I have no idea. Doesn't really matter, but mediocrity accepting losers are no friends of mine or the LSU football program.

I think it is fairly evident this year that Coach Cam has had the lion share of the play calling on offense. That said, several people have voiced their opinions about I-formation runs on 1st and 2nd down being a reason why our offense stalls and we've lost games. I would suggest you go back and look at the play calling. In all our losses we are throwing many times on first and second down. The only times we moved to mostly run on first down this year is when the passing game is struggling and tbh, even when it is we are still throwing the ball a ton (see the OM first half).

For example, down by 14 and beckham gives hope and returns the ball to the 20 yard line? Then, with some momentum, we call the famous I Formation toss back to Hill or whatever and we lose 3 yards and also lose the somewhat momentum we had. Why not pass it and find Landry in the slot or maybe a TE. Miles and this stupid I Formation needs to go when its not needed. I cant take it anymore.

1st and 10 at ALA 18 Jeremy Hill rush for a loss of 3 yards to the Alab 21. 17 31
2nd and 13 at ALA 21 Zach Mettenberger pass incomplete to Jarvis Landry, broken up by Landon Collins.
3rd and 13 at ALA 21 Zach Mettenberger pass incomplete.
4th and 13 at ALA 21 Timeout LOUISIANA STATE, clock 9:17.
4th and 13 at ALA 21 Zach Mettenberger pass incomplete to Jarvis Landry.

So your complaint is why didn't we throw it to Landry on 1st down when 2 of the next three downs were incomplete passes to him. Maybe we tried running it because Hill is a brilliant RB and Bama had been keying on Landry all game.

I think your hatred of the I-formation toss has made you very sensitive to it. Considering we only ran it maybe 4 or 5 times in the entire game, it's not a bad call in that position.

It's ok. You're just one of those guys who talks about how great our offense is with Cam when were scoring points, and how Les is calling the plays when we get stopped. Not much else to it

LISTEN UP FOLKS: We can't understand Les because he communicates at a higher level then us "regular" people.

You know, I chalk it up to the "Law of Primacy"...Meee-chigan, Bo, Big 10, three-yards and a cloud of dust mentality. It's hard to break a habit once learned. If someone drilled into you that 2+2=5 when you were young, you would figure out eventually the real answer was 4 but, emotionally, would fight that feeling tooth and nail and be extrememly uncomfortable with it. So, you would go thru life trying to convince folks that 2+2=5 was, indeed, correct. Hence, I-formation, toss-sweep, 1st and 2nd down. Pass on third. Just my 2-bits.
