Philosophical question for the rant. I recognize that bad losses (a la Troy) are more easily distinguished mid-season than good wins (Auburn?). Just curious how others think about it.

IMO in a vacuum, I don't think they do. Bad losses are on coaching and execution. The first half of that part shouldn't happen. Period.

But games aren't played in a vacuum. Anyone who doesn't see how bad our losses on the d line were hasn't been paying attention. Same could be said on the oline (although part of that is requiring time to gel as a unit).

Regardless of both of these deficiencies, you don't lose to Troy. But was it all on the coaching? We had 4 turnovers vs Troy...2 more than we have had the rest of the year combined. But that all comes down to focus and discipline and anyone who watched our team that night knows that we had neither.

I don't lay the Ms State game at the feet of our coaching staff. I do with the Troy game. Inexcusable.

I don't know how I feel about O and the CEO plan yet. It does seem like the ship has turned a corner and we shall see if they can build upon it. There is still a chance for greatness ahead of us this year, no doubt about that.

But I guess that brings us to the real thought behind the question. If O and the Tigers go on to win out, win the SEC and win a NY6 bowl game, will you personally remember the season as great? Or will you remember it as the time Troy cost LSU a chance to play for the Nat'l Champ?

TLDR Answer the title question.

No bcs losses eliminate you from playoffs and good bowl games.

No. Because if LSU happens to win out, the loss to Troy will still keep them out of he playoff.

Sucks but it’s true

The answer to this will differ with each person individually. In seasons like this where we aren't playing for anything, then I say yes because you are building for next year. Many will disagree.

Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesnt.

LSU winning last week qualifies and anyone harping on Troy is just a mosquito penis.

Kind of agree with this. Even terrible losses don't exist in a vacuum. How we view the losses will differ with the total body of work. There's no turning back from the Troy loss now but if we are a different and better team down the road then maybe a season or two from now we look at it differently? The reverse is also true...if we don't get better that Troy loss will remain our white whale for a very long time...even after a new regime takes over.

Depends if you are a Half Empty/Half Full Guy

To me we are having a great year. Our Team is developing into Championship caliber team, they will stumble some more but they are undeniably growing,

A win over Alabama >> 2 losses to Troy, IMHO

I will never forget Troy, but of course big wins help. If it took that loss to galvanize this team then so be it. The only win that would truly “help” erase that nightmare would be Bama.

Not with elite programs, for obvious reasons .
Any loss is unacceptable.
Terrible losses eliminate you from consideration as an " elite" team.

Troy is a bigger shite stain on our resume than you realize. That loss would keep LSU out of the playoff even if they were to completely dominate the rest of their games including the SEC championship.

Yes.

Because if the loss propels you to doing something great, that's all people will talk about.

How often is Saban's losses to UAB, ULM, and Utah brought up by the national media?

Yea, sadly, I believe this to be true as well. Although beating a number one bama and then beating a possible number one Georgia in the SECCG would make it interesting.

Depends. If LSU turns the season around by.beating Bama and then UGA in the SECCG, everything will be forgiven. Sure you'll have a super small amount of people still getting pissed at the Miss St and Troy losses (because both were really bad and should never happen to a program like LSU), but winning out after all that has happened since last season ended shows incredible promise for the future. It'll be even better than what Penn St did last year. Sending that much talent to the NFL, losing that many players in the trenches, playing that main freshman in pivitol roles, and having a poor game manager at QB but still winning 11-12 games should take the heat off of everybody.

Next year, better QB, better OL, more experienced defense, and the offense should be able to run many a thing Canada did at Pittsburgh.

I'm highly doubtful of that happening, but man, what if?

This is an extremely elitist attitude. It reminds me of last year right after we fired Miles. A bunch of people were saying that we had a stable program.

As I said then: we just fired our head coach. We are not a stable program.

we'll pay for the troy loss when we see what bowl we have at season's end. no sense harping on it. we all know it's a big failure on the team, but we can only try and have the best season we can from here on out. since troy, so far so good.
