That is not the way it has been in the past. There have been plenty of players who played in early games and still redshirted. I think there was an unwritten rule that you could say they were hurt after that and still redshirt.

Rule changed years ago, not sure when. Now it's one play and you can't redshirt unless you are injured.

I always understood it as a medical redshirt is voided if you play less than 20% of snaps and a reg redshirt in voided right when you step on the field

yesterday? If so, why?

There was never any intention of red-shirting him. He will be our starting QB next season.

What does it fukin matter if we burned his red shirt or not most of these players don't stay 4 years any how. Who gives a shite about a redshirt they are only useful if a player gets hurt early

There is no rule that says he cannot red-shirt at another time but we all know that it ain't happening. Maclin red-shirted as a sophomore without medical reasons.

I don't think there's any reason to redshirt him. He's our starter next year. Let him get out on the field and at least get a little used to being out there in the stadiums and college game conditions.

I don't think his plays are meaningless at all. Take a look at the two plays yesterday. On the throwback pass, the coach sent a message to him that he trusts him to throw the ball BACKWARD to another player who is not a receiver... Then trust him again to make a reception on the same play against a tough defense, the best we have faced. That sends a message to a player that is critical to his development as a playmaker, even if it fails. Then, he scored a touchdown on a simple sneak. It was his first td, and now he has one under his belt. Now that little psychological barrier is out of the way. More will come now. The first td is always the hardest.

Bottom line: even without a redshirt, we have three years of Jennings as a starter. By that time, I'm sure we will have another qb in the wings causing us to have this exact same discussion in the future. This is really not a problem, folks.
