Miles hurt us by letting Fournette participate in a full contact scrimmage a week before the opening game.

At least the scrimmage wasn't during a lightning delay. That would be totally stupid.

Fournette's performance in the Bama game is not his fault. The football was too heavy. I'd like to see one of you guys to try carrying the state of Louisiana against Bama's defense.

I don't recall Fournette getting 38 carries in a game so that he could break a record. Fournette routinely sat once the game was decided even though the opportunity for big stats against a defeated defense was there.

All this all day.

What made Fournette's soph year so remarkable in historic SEC terms was not just the raw yardage, but his YPC. He was being compared to guys like Herschel and Bo, but he was putting up their kind of yardage with far fewer carries, at least in comparison to Walker.

Bo

1985 Heisman Year
278 Carries, 1,786 Yards, 6.6 YPC, 17 TDS

Walker
1980
275 Carries, 1,616 Yards, 5.9 YPC, 15 TDS
385 Carries, 1,891 Yards, 4.9 YPC, 18 TDS
Heisman Year
335 Carries, 1,752 Yards, 5.2 YPC, 16 TDS

Fournette
2015
271 Carries, 1,953 Yards, 6.5 YPC, 22 TDS

And Leonard did this with one fewer game against a cupcake in McNeese, in which we can all assume he'd have added another 150 plus at least in something like 15 carries or less.

You want to bash Miles for having the poor guy run into brick walls of 8+ man fronts by refusing to spread the field offensively or disguising what we were doing with him, then fine. Or for not having a viable passing attack which would force teams to back away giving our beast more room to run...also fine. But pretending that Miles rode this guy in an effort to pad stats is fricking absurd given we all saw last year and how often he was yanked with tons of time left, tons of gas in the tank, and 300 yards or more looming in his sights. With even 50 more carries in games where he was running absolutely wild and was shelved with tons of time left, #7 could very well have been approaching 2,500 yards had the goal been to pad stats with him.

In short, quit being stupid, OP.

Great post. Perfectly stated.

But check your math on LF and Bo.

The number are even better than you posted. LF average is over 7 ypg, Bo is .2 lower than you posted.

LF in 2015 was simply remarkable, and could have been much much more impressive with the McNeese game and if he wasn't pulled against Auburn and especially South Carolina.

If that game wasn't moved due to the floods and wanting to be respectful to a team dealing with a natural disaster, LF might have broken the record on them.

He probably breaks 300 on Auburn, and definitely would have broken the record on Syracuse with one more carry
