The real travesty in this society is that you're no longer allowed to say how you really feel about this issue. You're basically forced to tiptoe around it, and you're not allowed to feel uncomfortable with it. Unless you completely embrace it, you're a bigot. Forget the fact that it adds a complicated and undoubtedly uncomfortable element to the team. You can think it, but you better not say it or you'll be labelled and the wave of public opinion will turn against you.

Seems to me that there will be those who feel uncomfortable with it, and they should have the right to be uncomfortable without having to pay for it.

If you're going to force people to accept gays, then you're also forced to accept "backwoods idiots". Also, you shouldn't use derogatory terms for blue. What happens when you use derogatory names for gays, black people, little people, poor people, mentally challenged etc? Exactly. See where this will never end?

This is nonsense. He isn't calling Blue a "derogatory term" based on his race, religion, or sexual preference, but based on his actions. If someone is gay/straight/white/black and says something that you associate with being an idiot, you can call them one. You shouldn't treat someone differently because they're a dwarf, if they are being ignorant, you don't coddle them, you tell them to stop being a moron.

I'm sorry, but if you're asking me to not treat dwarfs differently, that's where I have to draw the line. They're so tiny!

Hey...this post would have been very popular in 1960, provided you were talking about race instead of sexual orientation.

Keep in mind...you are free to espouse any old belief you want. Thankfully, the rest of us are allowed to point and laugh at you for having ridiculous beliefs.

While I don't really care either way...i believe this statement to be true.

I would wager that Blue's comments better represent the feeling of most of the team than Hairston's.

I don't think these two issues are the same, and I don't think they play out in a team environment in the same way. Being gay is not the same thing as being of a different race, and being uncomfortable about homosexuality in the locker room is different from being racist. There is no sexual component to racism.

You should. Les as a coach is a 'leader of men'. We provide these players with some advantages
- training to be a leader on the field
- ability to speak in public (via interviews)
- exposure
If the players follow their coach to a conclusion that is regressive, would you not be concerned.

people have their opinions...it's not Miles' job to change peoples opinions on a certain subject.

Ryan has the platform because he was a public figure thanks to LSU baseball in part. He has been influenced in part by Skip.

you're making an assumption that Ryan's opinion is based on his connection with Skip Bertman. Thats a stupid assumption.

You do know some believe that gay can be cured with prayer and beatings

i've heard of the prayer part...never heard of the beating part. The people that believe that gay can be cured with prayer are entitled to their opinion.

and they're entitled to their opinion...whether you agree with it or not

Thanks for putting words in my mouth.

I don't have that fear any more than I have the same fear that every woman would want that. But to deny that the sexual component and issues of attraction would be problematic is disingenuous.

It is obvious from these responses, as I posted earlier, that if you have a dissenting opinion, you will not be tolerated.

My personal opinion is Michael Sam didn't choose to be Gay anymore than he chose to be black. It was his choice to come forward and say he was Gay and that is his right. However, I don't think he had the right to tell the Times he dated a man on the Missouri swim team.If the man on the Missouri swim team wished to come out and say he was Gay, that would be his choice not Micheal Sam's choice.

I am sure if you got to shower with the girls volleyball team, there would be a few ugly ones you weren't interested in. That doesn't mean all of them should be totally comfortable with you in there. I think it is a fact that SOME members of the football team will have concerns about it.

Why can't gays remain in the closet?

Society is never going to approve of this lifestyle so why ask us to openly "accept" this lifestyle which should and always be a private issue?

Political correctness is destroying the country because we can't even express our true feelings anymore

But coming out and telling the world "I am gay" and I want to marry a man doesn't sound "ignorant" to you?

No, no can't do that because we have to shift the dialogue to "Equality"... give me a break.

The rest of us sinners aren't trying to glorify our sins via the legal system... I am not on board with the MSNBC movement...

why can't we talk about real problems facing America's governmental affairs? Like bankruptcy
