Did Elite Talent Avoid the Chavis D?

So, this board is lighting up over Chavis leaving. Seriously, he is a good DC, not a great one.
Under his watch, I remember (1) elite DT, Michael Brockers. Brockers is a special athlete.
Bennie Logan was really good also (starting for the Eagles). Other than that, who has he brought in?
I recall some really good LB's (Shephard, Minter & now Beckwith), but who else?
Other than Mingo & Montgomery (not even on an NFL roster now), who has he brought in?
While he's been the DC, we have lost out on numerous marquis DT's, DE's and LB's. Mario Edwards, Eddie Goldman, C.J. Johnson just to name a few.
My point is, his scheme doesn't attract elite talent. I was never a fan of the DC being in the booth, he should be on the field, chewing out some arse when needed.
The pundits can opine all they want that the reason our "D" suffered is because of all the early departures, but if we had elite talent waiting for a chance to play, we wouldn't be down for very long. I mean, we had to start a true freshman this year (Godchaux will be very good - elite) because we were so thin.
Bottom line on Chief, "brought in good talent, "not elite"! I believe his defensive scheme didn't attract elite talent.
Hopefully, we hire someone with some fire and the scheme that attracts elite talent. I am going back to watch Ole Miss get the arses kicked! Happy New Years!!!!

He had some really stout D's at Tennessee.

some where in your quote it says elite, is that a player we already have?

No, Chavis is elite. Look at the D players in the NFL, many of them are elite.
However, he is leaving LSU. LSU did not quit on him, he quit on us. Chavis is leaving that elite talent behind. LSU did not take it away from him.
At the end of the day that elite talent will still be on the field together, as a unit.

That's so motivating. But if you don't think Chavis leaving is a huge blow to this program you are sorely mistaken

quote:I do think it is a huge blow. I think that blow can be mitigated by the next guy, that is yet to be seen. But the players make the coach look good just as much as the coach makes the players better. It's interdependent. Hence, that leads me back to the next guy.

He's gone. His choice to go to a divisional opponent. LSU still has the players to get it done. So do it.

Well, the first problem with your post is you are only using nfl success to determine which of Chavis' players has been successful. Then you turn around and use high school recruiting rankings to determine elite players don't want to play for him.

Have you actually looked at all of the talent we have sent to the NFL in the past 6 years?
Did you forget about the Eric Reid, Honey Badger, Claiborne, Peterson, Ego, Tharold Simon, etc. Some of these guys were 2 and 3 star players(some higher) that came to LSU and were developed in to high to mid level nfl draft picks.
