Did anyone see it being amazing before the 07 season happened?

I've seen a lot of posts talking about being a serious contender for the championship in 2011. And i completely agree. But before the 2007 season started, were there people talking about that season like people are talking about the 2011 season? The reason i ask this i want to know how likely it is for LSU that a season starting out holding so much promise and having so much expectation by the majority of fans,and actually pan out and end in a championship.
I know there are still alot of factors like who the new OC will be. If JJ keeps his starting spot over Mett and all that. But i just want to know how the feeling was going into the 2007 season. Since i wasn't part of the site yet.

We were ranked preseason number 2 in 2007. Of course everyone expected an NC.

yes and the kentucky game and esp the arky game killed us. it was a miracle we got the nc invite. losing dorsy at auburn was key to our defensive let down later in the season.

I actually wondered about that. I remember during the 09 Ole Miss melt down i was thinking I wonder what it was like around here when LSU lost the Kentucky game or Arky in 07.

Only the vast majority of this board and LSU fans I know. The 2007 NC was expected because of what we were bringing to the table.
I am far less confident about 2011.

And i know the way i worded the title most of the responses will be like " DUH WE DID" because of the reasons you've mentioned. That was just faulty wording on my part. But i could honestly just as easily see LSU as being a serious contender this year, but if not this year, then almost like an 07 state of mind in 2012

In '07 I actually had the feeling before the season started (in July or so). It wasn't just a confidence in the team, but a weird feeling that the breaks were going to go our way, like it was just our year. I painted my house (of course it was temporary), and spent the whole year telling everyone that the NC was ours like it was beyond question. And I kept that feeling all year long (except for a momentary lapse after the Arky game). I mean I literally laughed at a guy for thinking we were going to lose to UF when we were down by 10 with 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter (and had just missed a FG).
I don't feel that way about 2011... at least not yet. Let's see how the team pulls together.

I was at a friends house in California when the Tigers blew out ND in the Sugar Bowl and both of us were yelling "Pre-season No. 1! Pre-season No. 1!" And other than the Arky game I never really wavered. Thanks again Pitt Panthers.

I do not think we will win the NC next year. The team will still be really young on defense and at reciever and running back. But we should be very good. 2012 or 2013 look out.

People thought we were already in the national championship game before the 07 season started. The Virginia Tech game just re-enforced those thoughts.
It's still a complete joke LSU lost to Kentucky and Arkansas that season.

I think since 2003 Tiger fans expect excellence, so yes, I think that 07 along w/ the other years was highly anticipated. We should have lots of fun in the next few years for sure!
