I use to go as a kid, was even on the sidelines for a couple of them. Fun but just not the same as a Saturday night. Tonight's game has that same feel.

P.S. - I already downvoted so you won't be the first.

When I was little went to see LSU played Tulane on the Westbank, early 80s. Think it might have been the freshman teams.

The baby bengals were what they were called. Freshman were not allowed to play varsity. There were future all americans on those teams.

Are there any records of these games anywhere? How many games would the jv play a year and did they play other sec teams or instate teams

Seems like in the early 80's they played home games at Bernie Moore. Maybe that was a one time game,or issue.

Yes. Back in the 1960s and 70s the LSU- Tulane freshmen game used to be a big deal. It was played the Friday night before the varsity game. If the varsity game was in Baton Rouge they freshman’s game would be in Tulane Stadium and vice versa. It attracted large and ruckus crowds.

Found this old TD link from 2011 with some interesting history in the comments. Billy Cannon played on the Baby Bengals!

Yes

Saw:
LSU-OM in '68 in TS (there were like 3 guys from my small town playing between the two teams.)

LSU-OM in '77 at Bernie Moore. Kyle Bruhl was a beast.

LSU-Lamar in TS in '82. James White (played TE but was playing at ILB for this and was going sideline to sideline clothes lining people)

I remember going a couple of years late 60`s early 70`s.
the most memorable was the year Mike Miley was a freshman.
That freshman class was loaded.LSU beat Tulane something
like 55-6.Great memories.

LSU OM 1977 in Bernie Moore. Keith Fourcade (John's brother) was a linebacker for the Rebs.

I was at that Mike Miley game.

The most memorable to me was 1973. The game was in Tulane Stadium although the varsity game was also. LSU had a big lead when the Tulane varsity came out on the sidelines to inspire the freshmen.Tulane mounted a comeback and the game ended in a 20-20 tie on a missed extra point. Then disaster struck the next night. 14-0.

Yeah, it was freshman only and it was in '79 and Alan Risher was the QB at Bernie Moore. I can't remember who we played (may have been ole miss) but we wore purple jerseys. I want to say it was on a Friday afternoon/evening as the RV tailgaters were walking over when we were parking.

A bunch of us kids were in the grass area behind the south end zone where they used to hold field events during track meets. I took a shot to the mouth playing "touch" football and we had to stop at BR General on the way home for stitches. After the game was over of course. Good Times.

I have looked online extensively and can find nothing.

In 1973, the NCAA limited scholarships to 105 which sealed the fate of freshman teams. They lowered it again in 1978 to 95. By that time, they were only playing 3-4 freshman games a year. I believe the last freshman team at LSU was either the 1979 or 1980 team.

There used to be decent crowds in TS the year Bert Jones played qb for the freshmen team. I was in graduate school at the time and attended those games.
