Damn, this guy Mike, must have been reading my posts on this board. He stole my stuff.

quote:

Scott: Overall, how would you compare this O-line to last year’s? Better? Worse? The same?

quote:

Mike: It is certainly not as good. You can’t lose players like Vadal Alexander and Jerald Hawkins, both guys drafted in the NFL, and be better to start the season off. Both those guys had extensive starting time in the SEC. So, not as good to start the season.

Also, Scott, people forget that LSU lost another starting offensive lineman in tight end Dillon Gordon, who played early in 2015 before he got hurt. He was a 295-pound tight end who played like another offensive tackle, so that also adds to why this O-line is not as good as last year’s

Had good things to say about an incoming freshman OL:
quote:

A guy I saw in high school who looked like a senior up against 7th graders is Donavaughan Campbell. When LSU signed him I said I think he can start some time during his freshman season. For a big man, and he is huge, he is pretty quick and he can move his feet very smoothly. Dominant run blocker and he finishes off his guy. He will need work on pass blocking techniques and pass protection set-ups, but Campbell is very, very talented. He’s a great fit player for the Tigers..

On JD Moore:
quote:

Mike: Huge, because LSU loves to have that lead-blocker pave the trail and we all saw just how important JD Moore was when he wasn’t in the lineup. Tough kid. Smart, just a kick-arse mentality on the field and he is physical. Big gain getting him back.

Snippet of what was said about Harris, This is becoming a broken record:
quote:

the key to any QB at any level is the ability to be accurate in the short to intermediate area of the field and he has struggled there. Cam Cameron has praised his efforts in that department and so if that improves LSU will have no problem moving the ball. But we all have to see it in game action.

Portion of what was said about Cam being on the sideline - this is good stuff:
quote:

I work with six former NFL quarterbacks on TV and radio and every one of them told me that their coordinator/QB coach was on the field with them. Put the wide receiver coach upstairs – in this case Dameyune Craig – and let him communicate to Cam.

It is crucial to have a guy that can look the QB in the eyes and talk to him about what is happening, and if he gets rattled to calm him down. Again, you have to get Harris more on the move in the short game.

I really think Dameyune Craig being there will help out a lot also because he has been there. He has played in those stadiums at QB and can relate. He knows SEC defenses looking at through the eyes of a former quarterback.

Finishes with:
quote:

Mike: You have to find a very capable left tackle to block the blindside for Harris and I say that guy is Ethan Pocic. He is a tremendous football player. I have already spoken about Donavaughan Campbell.

I’m really excited to watch the maturing of Malachi Dupré at wide receiver. D.J. Chark – LSU needs to find a way to get the ball in his hands. He’s explosive. I am also a big fan of Colin Jeter at tight end. Huge target, knows how to get open, especially in the red zone and short-yardage areas of the field.

It'll be a big boost if JD can stay healthy all season.

When did he say this? It appears obvious that Pocic is staying at center. Mike I don't think follows the day to day that closely...

Hawkins wasn't very good. Losing him doesn't hurt as much as this guy is claiming, IMO

I think he was saying in his opinion Pocic should be at LT.

I want to see him develop a short game with his throws. That element has to be in play for LSU. You just can’t rely on the deep pass vertically. It has just not been there for LSU. You don’t have to have a superstar QB to move the chains. You just need an efficient one.

Let's get one thing straight about Detillier. No one has been as wrong as this cat has been about LSU in the last decade. If I had to write down all the times he's said shite about various players that turned out to be wrong it would be phone book thick. He, like everyone else in the sports media world, is right every now and then and he will remind you of those times literally every time you talk to him for the rest of your life. I'm sure he's a nice dude and all but I think sometimes he just like the sound of his own voice. Sometimes when he's on with Mascona you can tell Matt has completely checked out of the conversation because Detillier won't shut up. He's the king of sports one liners and I guess he thinks that proves he's an expert or whatever. If I would've heard him say "blow up the landing strip" one more time last year in regard to the Saints and LSU getting pressure up the middle I was going to lose my shite.

Pocic IS NOT moving to LT this late in his career. It may take a few games to find the right mix and pinpoint the 2-3 capable backups, but this o-line will just just fine IMO. 3 starters coming coming plus Weathersby.

Detillier love him some Detillier.

Stating the obvious. Won't be "as" good starting off the season.

No sht. But, I think we are certainly more athletic and more capable.

Everyone knows that stuff. The only question is will the Oline be ready by the meat of the schedule, especially for bama. Plenty of time.

At this point, and I'm sure I'm not alone, I'm just so tired of the same regurgitated talking points over and over again.

The question marks with this team are obvious, we've been going over them ad nauseam for months.

The OL has been abused in November games against Alabama and Arkansas the last two years. Unless they figure out how to win those battles in the trenches, no amount of returning talent at the skill positions (Harris, Fournette, Dupre/Dural) is going to matter.

2015 vs Arkansas
LSU gained 59 rushing yds; 2.0yds/carry
OL allowed 5 sacks
4 penalties on OL (3 false starts and one 15yd hands to the face)

2015 vs Alabama
LSU gained 54 rushing yards; 2.1yds/carry
OL allowed 2 sacks
2 penalties on OL (one holding; one illegal touching)

2014 vs Arkansas
LSU gained 36 rushing yards; 1.1yds/carry
OL allowed 4 sacks
1 penalty on OL (false start)

2014 vs Alabama
LSU gained 183 rushing yards; 3.8yds/carry
OL allowed 2 sacks
1 penalty on OL (personal foul)
