What is stop rate? It’s a basic measurement of success: the percentage of a defense’s drives that end in punts, turnovers or a turnover on downs. This simple metric can offer a more accurate reflection of a defense’s effectiveness in today’s faster-tempo college football than yards per game or points per game.

The Athletic

1. Penn State 88.9%
2. Duke 88.6%
3. Michigan 87.8%
4. Oklahoma 85.7%

8. Georgia 83.8%
..
16. Alabama 78.7%
..
49. FSU 68.1%
..
81. Colorado 61.2%
..
107. LSU 53.1%

Seems about right. Our defense is still figuring itself out with personel and scheme.

This was the stat we pointed to in 2019 when people said our defense was bad - we were close to top 15 then.

Agreed. It’s been unacceptable to start and there’s no denying that. Once it all comes together, I think we can actually be one of the top defenses in the country.

I’m not writing my guys off. We have room to improve and we will

2020 was way worse. There was no chance of improvement there.

I think this defense will improve. It won't be 2011 but I think they will get better.

So...Third and House is the thing we all thought it was. I don't think I needed stats to confirm that.

Hey...look on the bright side...we aren't muffing those punt returns...amirite?
