Don't talk to me about cost. TAF and all these other athletic departments are making millions and I'm sure some bat company would love to see their bats being used in the College WS by an elite program like LSU. So the cost argument is dead. IMO
LOL
I'm sure the NCAA would love to have certain teams using the wood bats while other schools without the extra money has to use composite bats, that would make a world of sense.

True, but couldn't you use them in the regionals, super, and CWS?

What I suggest is that the teams be allowed to use wood or composite. If the composite is as dead as being depicted on this thread then it would not matter. The wood bat contract would be set by the NCAA with a company or several companies that bid the lowest cost. Teams would use only those companies allowing for smaller budgets to compete. If a school just does not have the funding, then they use composite only.
I'm sure there are experts that could bring some parity to the issue on cost and equipment performance.

yea, LSU can afford wooden bats all right, but who else can? maybe 20 or 25 other teams? aluminim bats was all about costs from the very beginning.

You want teams to switch bats before the regionals?

You are assuming wood and composite are completely equal, and I'm assuming there is at least a slight difference

These dead bats have effectively taken away the homerun..... which is an important part of the history of the game (and is also fun to watch). We understand that there are some other important and fascinating facets of the game, but as an LSU fan, I also understand that they have taken away one of our major competitive advantages.
Just because someone doesn't particularly LIKE small ball, does not mean that they are ignorant or dislike the game.

I'm not in favor of the "dead bats"

it wasn't a competitive advantage for us after about 1998 or so

No it doesnt, but if they do like the game, they should be able to respect small ball

This will lead to more cheating. This will officially usher in the shaved bat era for NCAA.

Maybe we'll see a no-no this yr n the box

Meh, can you imagine the initial investment required by programs to furnish a team with wood bats? It would probably require AT LEAST 2x more bats than players, and figure that over EVERY YEAR. Cost is most certainly an issue, not to mention the amount of trees that would take
Safety-wise, the broken bats are something to think about, especially after that one hit the Cubs player.

quote:Yes it was. Maybe not in the strictest sense of home runs, but our hitting has arguably been what sets us apart from other teams. The dead bats shift the power to the UT's of the world that are pitch and bunt.

We had many games throughout last year that gave us small ball, and those games were fun and exciting. However, that's ALL we're going to get from now on... and it's depressing.

I would rather watch paint dry then watch small ball!

Small ball can be very exciting. More bunts, more steals, and you are still gonna see a bunch of singles and doubles. Everyone should be thankful its happening now instead of 10 years ago. LSU is much more prepared for it now. Skip would've been fricked.
