I guess we should hire Bobby Williams because the last time we hired a guy who was the head coach at Michigan State he turned into the GOAT.

What a moronic rejoinder. Aranda's total lack of head coaching experience is obviously a major concern. The analogy between Aranda and Archer's relative experience is grounded in history and reason. Your attempt at sarcasm is grounded in stupidity.

LSU should not hire a coordinator with no HC record for its elite and highly desirable coaching vacancy.it's too much of a risk.

I drew the comparison using the exact same history and reason you used. We in the biz call that disproving a logical fallacy with a counterexample.

I agree, but Aranda should be in line before a career d-line coach with no meaningful success.

What "biz" would that be? Buffoonish sophistry? You must be a leader in the field.

I don't know the answer as to who LSU should hire. But, if it's not Aranda, it better be a sure thing if Aranda wants to be a head coac soon. If and when Aranda becomes a head coach, he looks like the kind of coach that becomes a hot name annually for NFL jobs. That's a good problem because it means your coach is damn good.

Mike Archer was as dumb as a bag of rocks. We only hired him because Arnsparger tricked the good old boys into hiring Archer so he could have Spurrier. So many people fawning over Herman, how long has he been a HC? Maybe it's a gamble, but he's obviously got a brilliant defensive mind. One way or another, we will regret him getting away if he does.

College football is ALL about recruiting. Alabama is as good as it is (probably could beat the Cleveland Browns, or at least hold them to 10 points)because they get the best players. Coaching is secondary. Aranda would be great to continue coaching our defense, but how good of a head coach would HE be if he had to let someone else deal with the defense.

I have been watching him. He is a cerebral man. He does not display leadership qualities that you would normally see from a HC. He is removed from most on the sidelines, assumedly absorbed in thinking X's and o's for his masterful skills - defense. Are we sure his preferred goal is not a NFL DC position?

And next Sunday after Arkansas hangs 56 on us but our punter averages 78 yards per punt and our FG kicker makes 5 FG of 68 yards, you guys will want BDP as the next head coach

One would hope that LSU is having meetings with Aranda and find out ''exactly'' what the man wants to make him stay. He would be a great head coach

How do you know Aranda would be a great head coach? He has zero experience at that position, which requires an entirely different skill set than coordinator.

Let Aranda go prove it at a lower school, then the big schools will come calling.

Remember, the two best coaches in the game today started at Toledo and Bowling Green.

Given the fact that this is his first year, and plugging in current talent to implement his new defensive scheme...it's impressive! And what's more, the defense is still improving!

So yea, dude is brilliant and we should do everything to keep him. The question is, what are his ultimate career goals? Does he want to be a HC in the NFL? Does he want to be a HC in CF? Maybe he's not interested in all the PR/Admin distractions that come with the HC job? Maybe the guy just loves developing youth and the weekly chess match against opposing coordinators?

Obviously, coaching up millionaires is very different than coaching up future millionaires. Does he know his own heart? He named his son Ronin. What does it all mean??? (Just a little humor there)...

But I'm not joking when I say that AD staff, including Joe Alleva, needs to be working on answering these questions, as in yesterday...because the only way we should ever lose this guy is to the NFL. And even then, I'd make them pay for it.

Don't overlook Aranda's goals, Joe. Just sayin'.

i agree 100%. all this talk of pairing a great offensive mind with aranda is probably a moot point. guy will be a hc somewhere next year.

O has access to the best talent in the country now, and he has experience in delegating responsibility, which is something that Aranda doesn't have. O even said that that was a big deal for him early in his career.
