quote:

Etling says he knows what he is as a quarterback, and he doesn’t try to be anything else.

quote:

“I am a facilitator. I will run the ball if I have to,” said Etling. “I want to understand defenses, and facilitate the ball to my playmakers on the outside.”

quote:

A big reason Etling came to LSU was to work with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, with whom he had a previous relationship. Both hail from Terre Haute, Indiana.

Also, at the end of the Ed Daniels' article, he provides some Media Day Notes:

quote:

A program insider said middle linebacker Kendall Beckwith “looks like an All American.” He also noted that a pair of skill position players are special. “Malachi Dupre (wide receiver) will have a big year.” “Derrius Guice (running back) is the real deal. He is really going to help us.”

quote:

What about the LSU defensive line? “Everyone thinks we are thin, but we will be fine. Isaiah Washington (Karr High product) and Arden Key are going to play a lot.”?

I think Coach O is his insider!

If Etling were eligible I think he would be the starter.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CANT WAIT ANY LONGER

Guice will be special. He's a superstar. Strong as an ox, one of the fastest players on the team, great RB size, great hands, awesome moves and vision, and SWAG for days.

This kid will be so fricking good.

So will Beckwith, but we only get him one more year :sademoticon:

Not sarcasm at all. He's an experienced guy with some success. I think they would have him start to distribute the ball around. He looked much better than Jennings and Harris in the games I've seen him play in. Obviously, I don't know what Harris can do yet, but Etling is a proven commodity.

He was benched at Purdue and was pretty bad last year.

quote:

Etling played two seasons at Purdue. Last season, after five games and only two wins, Etling lost his starting job.

Etling’s 2014 numbers were nothing special, including six touchdown passes and five interceptions with a 54.9 percent completions.

ETA:

And has less time in the system than either AJ or Harris and doesn't have close to the physical tools as Harris.

Hearing all of this about Guice has me excited, but I'm getting more convinced LF won't get the carries to threaten for the Heisman. Not a bad thing, but no way Guice and Williams don't take the carries away that put Fournette in contention.

With a terrible OL and skill players. He would wreck shite here. At least he's played and could get his completion percentage over 50 against P5 competition. Harris still isn't as proven as this guy and the staff would probably trot him out to start in game 1.

Purdue finished 3-9 last year. Maybe he wasn't the problem.

Purdue vs Notre Dame 2014

Etling is the QB here.

At best, he's an average QB with average arm talent who is brand new to this system competing against guys with multiple years in this system, one of which is leading the pack and has far superior arm and leg talent than Etling.

The notion he would've come in here and started is absurd at best.

His completion % was 54.9% last year, but look at his yards per attempt... his Y/A was a pathetic 4.9, which would be the 2nd lowest in the country. In 2013, it was 6.3yards per attempt, which was 108th out of 130. To put in perspective, Jennings yards per attempt was 7.1 this last season. And Y/A is arguably the most important statistic for a QB.

So yea his completion % was 55%, but they weren't efficient completions and almost all of them were extremely short, check down passes. 55% completion is not too good when you consider how low his Y/A were.

His yards per attempt in 2014 was about the same as our yards per carry rushing... 4.9 Y/A for Etling, and as a team we averaged 4.7yards per carry, and LF averaged 5.5YPC by himself.

He would "wreck shite" here?

He lost to the Central Michigan 38-17, while going 17/32, 0 TDs, and 2 Ints, for a QBR of 24.

Against Iowa, for their Homecoming, he lost 24-10, while going 11/26, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and a QBR of 2.4. He was benched this game. Iowa was shitastic last year too.

Correct. He completed very, very few passes down the field. He was easily flustered and would dump it off to the RBs. He was a bad QB for Purdue, even against crap competition.

Great example.

He went 27/40, 234 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 5.9 YPA, and a QBR of 55.4. And that was his best game of the year.

And they lost 30-14.
