Daniels is ok. No better, no worse. Because our receivers kinda suck, and our OL is patchwork week to week, that averageness shows. In the SEC, it shows even more.

- He leads the SEC in sacks
- He has the lowest passing average among SEC starters
- He has lost his WRs who had to call a players only meeting to get his attention
- He cannot read defenses

How much 'badder' does he need to be to change your opinion?

I don't think he is a bad QB. I just don't think he can process enough. They need to give him one or two reads and then let him run. When he tries to process three or more reads he becomes paralyzed.

Gerry DiNardo used to say there was nothing wrong with Lou Tepper's defense.

Coaches say stupid crap all the time.

Daniels may not be a bad QB, but he is far from a good one.

In another thread, I posted that v. Tennessee our passing offense had only 3 completions cover 20or more yards. Two of those were exactly 20 yards and one went for 23.

The vast majority of his throws are inside of ten yards and most of our completed pass plays v. Tennessee were less than 10 yards with a bunch that went for 5 yards or less.

Not gonna win games if you don't put pressure on the defense.

Ditto what he did at his last school.

JD is not an elite QB. He is average at best. Our OC is not very good either. We might as well open up the playbook now and throw the BS plays away. Spread the feild. If JD cannot get it done, it's time for another move.

I know, let's get him some glasses. He's not throwing to open receivers because he literally can't see. Like a little kid in 1st grade who can't read because he can't see the board.

Dear John,

I agree. He is not bad. He is one of the worst in recent memory. Also, please stop posting such stupid things.

Love,

Daniels has the physical ability but mentally he isn't processing the information quick enough.
the game is too fast for him.
he doesn't trust his eyes and has no clock in his head.
he's become severely one dimensional wanting to take off and run.
As we saw vs Tennessee, the defenses in the SEC have figured him out: put pressure on him and make him beat you with his arm. WR's are running free in the secondary. he just can't get them the ball effectively. he can't do it.

his rushing stats vs Tennessee: 16 attempts for 38 yards.

His QBR (omitting southern and new mexico) has decreased in every game so far:

quote:

FSU 86.7
MSU 66.2
AUB 61.8
UT 56.7

LINK

At this rate, his QBR will predictively be around 49 against UF

It’s apparent that JD will be a big part of this program going forward and will probably be our starter next year

Didn't even realize he was a junior.
I have the sads now thinking he's going to be the starter next year as well.

he's just not good, and he's not ready for this kind of football.
I mean have you watched him pre-snap? he doesn't even look at the defense the vast majority of the time. He's too busy looking at the sidelines then he snaps the ball. How the hell are you supposed to know where you're going with the ball if you have no idea what the defense is likely doing?
and if he's not looking anywhere at all, as in not at this receivers, defense or sideline, then we are running the ball.

that all screams he's a dumb as a box of rocks, and if you're going to be that dumb as the QB, you better have some damn good skills ala Cam Newton Jamarcus Russell.

Daniels must be a great practice player - but on gameday you can see the hesitation and indecision. His body language shows a lack of confidence. No confidence = subpar play.

He's bad and he should feel bad. Ok, I'm confident he's giving it his all but it's just not enough. There's not much to gain by sticking with him 100%. Losses might not look as bad with 0 interceptions but a loss is a loss.

Give Nuss a chance. What's the harm? Daniels has hit his ceiling. There's no upside to his passing game. And, he's no longer an effective scrambler. Nuss will do young/dumb things but he will also probably open the offense up more. Won't take much to stretch the field a little more and that will help with everything including the running game.

Very short sighted to cling to Daniels like something's gonna improve. We all agree this is a rebuild so take advantage of the opportunity to give other guys some playing time.

I really don’t think he’s bad. He’s just average and can run.

If there was another option we would have tried it, apparently we don’t

Here is another way to assess our QB situation and team status. We just played a QB with a pretty full package of skills. I dont classify him as elite yet, time will tell, but I do have him as pretty darn good.
So how well do you think he would do with this OL, RB, and WR group? I think even with our poor evaluation of the OL and RBs that he would do pretty good or better than our current situation...

He's a bad QB who's a great athlete that makes plays with his athleticism. Should've started and ended his college career at RB or WR. Might be looking at a high draft pick right now.

He can't read a d presnap or postsnap, can't see the field, won't throw the ball unless rec is running open in busted coverage, is inaccurate, throws a ball that's difficult to catch sometimes with lack of touch, and now that defenses will be selling out on the run, that is gone. What does he do well?

I disagree. I watched about 1 1/2 hours of film study last night on every offensive snap for LSU vs Tennessee. It was very interesting at just how often JD either completely missed seeing an open WR, saw him and didn't have the confidence to make the pass, or saw him much too late and held on to the ball.

For those saying Denbrock sucks, LSU actually had numerous plays where there was a guy wide open but the ball rarely went to him. JD is simply not processing the offense fast enough and isn't seeing the whole field. His accuracy is bad and he throws a lot of wobbly passes. He has no timing with his receivers. He made a few nice throws against Tenn but missed many more that would've been big gains had they been on target or had he thrown the ball.

Everything the film study showed leads me to believe he's a decent QB but the speed of the game in the SEC is too fat for him. The defenders are too fast and close quicker than he's used to. The SEC is a defensive conference and it's pretty obvious he has no clue what looks defenses are giving him.

Nuss is a freshman with a much better arm than daniels. No way Kelly didn't promise Daniels the starting job. That should give you concern that Kelly went to the portal and got THiS guy, who was below average in the PAC. Brennen apparently saw what was happening and said f it. Now it appears Kelly is stubborn and rather take certain offense failure vs unknown. Nuss has started one game as a TF against a top 25 SEC opponent. LSU lost a close won. Who has higher upside, a fresh with a strong arm, or a 4th year sr that still has no clue where pressure is coming from and can't see the field?
