Definitely should have but as we know these awards aren’t won on the performance of the current year. Think of Delpit winning the Thorpe when he won. Congrats to Damone though, the country knows who deserved it.

Clark's numbers are mind blowing....but 6-6 makes it very difficult to win individual awards these days.

Is it an individual or team award?

Exactly. And exactly why Georgia got their butt beat.

That stat comparison is embarrassing for the Butkus winner. But these awards have little to do with individual play in the current season. If your team is great and you have preseason hype you will win.

Dorsey won all those awards in 2007 but he was a healthier and more impactful player in 2006. They were won because LSU was going to the national championship game and Dorsey had preseason hype thanks to 2006.

Clarks numbers are even more impressive when you consider all the dline and secondary that were hurt all year. He was the only consistent thing on the whole team.

Please tell me he's at least a 2nd team All American. I don't know when they put all this stuff out.

Not to mention, DC did this in the SEC WEST, which is clearly more competitive

To me, it's even more impressive when you consider that the first 6 games he had 0 sacks, 4 TFLs, and 0 turnovers forced.

Then for the final 6 games, he had 11.5 TFL, 5.5 Sacks, 2 FF, 1 INT. A completely different player the second half of the year.

It is a joke and always will be in this system of things. However one of these guys will have a career and the other a contract bonus.

But it's an individual award. Clark can't win games by himself.

Numbers vs. same competition - ALA

Player - tackles - solo - Sacks - TFL
Clark. - ….. 8 ……3……..1…….2……
Dean - ……..5……4……..0…….1……

Obviously the voter bias for teams with the better record

Edit- even more mind boggling: Clark was the leading tackler or tied for most tackles in ALL 12 LSU games.

In 13 games, Dean was the leading tackler just 1 time

Dean barely averaged 4.5 tackles a game?

Am I reading that correctly?
