Few things you could count on more under his watch than death, taxes, and LSU in the NCAA tournament every season.

Right.....like in 1994 when dale brown let a 30 point lead over Kentucky become a loss. Unbelievable. Kentucky laughed their way out the gym that night.

That would be a low point. He also beat UK more than any coach in history though.

Sure he did. His tenure as the coach was head and shoulders above all other coaches.

Being up over 30 against Kentucky only to lose that game was the worst coaching I've ever witnessed.
basketball in general or just Dale Brown's coaching??

you are NOT giving him props for succeeding or overachieving. Maybe if you had been a fan prior to 1990 you would understand why he lingered those last four years. Dale Brown has the respect of all his coaching peers!!! No problem with you pointing out the "bad" years, they are in fact part of his memoirs

What about Dale's 76 - 41 win at Rupp in 1987? I guess you and your pals don't remember that game. It probably still stands as Kentucky's largest home defeat.

Yeah, because he was good enough to stick around that long (2nd in wins to Adolph Rupp in SEC History I believe). Let me put it this way, before Dale Brown, LSU had beaten Kentucky twice in basketball. Brown beat them 18 times. He still had a losing record against them, but LSU had almost no success against them before he took over. Speaking of the bad ones, there was one where UK scored 86 or something at half...that was really bad. But there were a lot of great ones and times when he humbled UK.

brown's last 4. Those last four years were gut wrenching to watch as tulane, usl, and Louisiana tech all fared better than our tigers

I'm sure the Randy Livingston injury had nothing to do with it.

U can't base the last four years of his career on the injury of one player. If so, that means he didn't recruit other than randy.

Irony ... you're a big fan of Dale's #1 disciple, but you only remember Dale for four years at the end of his very successful career.

Well upon researching, his last four years mirrored his first four years!!(1972-73 to 1975-76)48-54 and (1993-94 to 1996-97)45-64 MY opinion is that he stopped taking an interest in recruiting his final years!! it was mentioned around LSU circles that he left recruiting to others and he felt he could motivate any group to get to the NCAA's(lol) It took me awhile to research

There is no question he stayed too long. I assure you that if a healthy Livingston played at LSU for 3 years, his record during those final years would have been much different.
