And 10+ consecutive NCAA bids, with a number of Sweet 16 and a couple Elite 8 appearances. You are a fricking moron and deserve every bit of ridicule you are getting for this stupid fricking thread.

I went to 5 DB basketball camps, love the guy and the excitement of LSU basketball growing up as a kid. But..every year was a frickin bust, tournament or not, JJ coaches the same way, minus the excitement

Only the legendary Adolph Rupp of Kentucky has won more games in SEC history. Brown and Rupp are the only SEC coaches that had 17 consecutive non-losing seasons. Only 4 coaches in the SEC have won more conference championships

Conference championships are a bust?

Went to a Final Four with Brady. Had nothing to do with coaching. Top notch players

So Coach K, Calipari, Izzo, Lute, Boeheim, Pitino, Self etc go to Final Fours with mediocre players, right?

Dale was all recruiter and no xo. This is the same exact ball played under Dale

Dale got to the tourney and won against some very good competition with average talent. He brought some great talent to BR, but also recruited guys who weren't good enough to play in the NBA and did very well with them. The 1986 team is a prime example.

That team lost to a Georgia Tech team in the tournament with 4 NBA players on it (3 first rounders including two top five picks). We didn't lose to a bunch of scrubs. They were awesome too.

LSU's basketball team didn't even go to tournaments or win much even when Pistol Pete was at LSU. Dale Brown won consistently for many years at a place where it didn't seem likely to happen (and he did it at times when he didn't have as much talent as well).

He's the most successful coach in LSU bball history. Having another Dale would be a complete blessing. I would love to consistently make the tourney

And be able to compete against the elite.

I was about to say the same thing. I'm actually ashamed that I root for the same team as this ding dong.

FWIW, any redneck could open a business and call himself a "CEO".

Dale Brown v2.0

We can only hope so. 15 consecutive years of post-season play, 10 consecutive NCAA tourney appearances. Aside from Donovan and Cal, that would make Johnny arguably the 3rd best coach in the SEC right now.

Brown also had good seasons with teams starring players like Ricky Blanton and Jose Vargas. So as dissapointing as it was that he didn't go all the way with Shaq, CJ and Roberts, Dale was also able to make some very average players extremely successful.

You, like all Daddy Dale Detractors, have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You heard someone say it and think you're smart repeating it.

Dale knew basketball as well and any coaches out there. He used spread offenses, wildly varied defensive strategies, fast break when appropriate, and more to take his teams much farther than they should have gone. All this talk about the talent he had is BS. How many of his players made it BIG in the NBA....ONE...Shaq.

Yes, the game got ahead of him in his later years, but that doesn't define his career, his success does. Was he Dean Smith, no. Was he better than 95% out there and by far the best LSU ever had, YES.

rant over !

ETA

AND ANOTHER THING...
Miles bashers are about the same as Dale bashers, have no idea how much they're going to miss him when he's gone....

Dale Brown didn't make the tournament until his 7th year (Jones is now 2 in with no tourney unless we win SEC) and his last 4 year were really bad ending in probation.

The 15 years in between he made 13 NCAA and 2 NIT appearances. He made some great runs with less talented teams, but also lost in the first or second round 10 times of those 15, and most of those against teams LSU was expected to beat.

But yet Dale couldn't win it all with quite possibly the most talented college basketball team ever assembled. Ask anyone that played at LSU when Rick Huckabay was an assistant and they will tell you that he was the real coach of the teams. Dale just motivated them.

Everybody forgets that he ended his career with 4 losing seasons.

Hey bud... show me your record. Only Rupp has won more games in the SEC than Dale Brown. I was there.
