Coverage of the College World Series averaged 923,000 viewers across ESPN’s TV and digital platforms through Monday, up 95% from last year and the highest average at this point of the tournament since 2011. Keep in mind five of the first six games aired on the flagship ESPN network, compared to just one of the first six last year. [ESPN PR 6.21]

Think LSU had anything to do with this?

Think NCAA should take notice if they want their ratings to continue into the championship series?

It helps that it's not a busy summer as far as other sporting events. For instance next year is the world cup

And it's a lot of blue blood, big name schools and obviously bringing LSU viewers. I can't imagine Coastal had a ton of people tuning in

This. Almost all the favorites won their regionals and super regionals.

Of course, LSU had everything to do with it. LSU baseball draws the biggest ratings out of all the college programs. Of all the CWS games, New Orleans tv market is obliterating everyone. Now, I'm just going to go out on a limb that they were tuning in for LSU instead of Florida, Louisville, TCU, etc.

ESPN would probably like LSU to hang in the College World Series as long as possible.

Through six CWS games heading to tonight's 6 p.m. CWS elimination game between LSU and Florida State, New Orleans is the highest-rated local market with a 7.1 local rating, followed by Louisville (2.8) and Portland, Ore. (2.1).

The New Orleans market earned a 14.4 and a 14.0 local rating for LSU's first two games: vs. Florida State (June 17) and Oregon State (June 19), respectively. The ratings are second and third highest in the market for any CWS game since 2009, notably better than any game in 2015 when LSU last played in Omaha.

This fact often gets overlooked. Everybody says they want the little guy and underdog to win but nobody actually watches them. This goes for the NCAA basketball tournament as well.

I dunno, I doubt people watch it unless they're fans of a team, or maybe if you're a scout. I might have watched a couple innings of the championship round.

LSU in general brings a lot of viewers, relative to the rest of the field.

The SEC is becoming more into baseball, the conference had a great postseason, and 3 teams made the CWS; so that viewership is up.

Then you figure in the LSU vs Oregon St matchup; the traditional power vs the team with the super record. On the SEC Rant I've noticed an overall general consensus from fans of the other teams that they're rooting for us to win, even the Gator fans.
I think that's keeping the Auburn, South Carolina, Arkansas etc fans engaged.
It's like the early BCS days, where the conference was inspiring loyalty, before Alabama turned everyone off by winning all the time.

NCAA finally got the right balance with ball/bat. This has been most watchable CWS since the move to TD Ameritrade.
