Imo this is the deepest staff PM has taken to Omaha.

Let's start with the assumption that Lange goes Saturday and Poche on Monday. Win both and you're off until Friday. Then who? I'd say Walker here. Win that and you're off till Monday with Lange & Poche back on deck with ideal rotation for finals.

What if you lose the Friday game? Do you go with Lange on Saturday in a win or go home bracket final or chance Gilbert in hopes of keeping Lange for Monday's finals? I think you have to go Lange in that scenario.

If Tigers win 1st game with Lange, but lose with Poche on Monday then it has to be Walker on Wed to stave off elimination. Then it gets interesting. Give Gilbert the start in another win or go home game or bring Lange back on 6 days rest? The next day if you win it would be Sat. Then whoever didn't go Friday either Lange/Gilbert gets the start in another win or go home I guess. Poche may even be available on 4 days rest too.

I find the strategies interesting.

My biggest take is you likely get 2 starts out of Lange for the entire tournament. Where do you use him? And secondly, how do you use Gilbert? As a primary middle/long relief guy or only briefly to save him as a possible 4th starter?

Guess you take it game by game, but PM has a lot of options to work with this go round.

Hess as a starter would be interesting. He and Gilbert can both extend if needed. Newman used to be able to give you 2-3 innings in relief no problem, but he's been used so briefly this season not sure how he'd respond to being extended more than 2 innings.

I also like that PM/Dunn have been letting guys like Hess go a little longer if hot. These kids aren't professionals. Best to leave guys in during tight games until they give you reason/orcreally bad match-up to yank em.

With some combination of Lange, Poche, Walker, Hess, and Gilbert Tigers are gonna be a tough out for sure.

For some reason Walker gives me more confidence than Poche too, but I can't see PM not starting his senior on Monday after coming back for his senior year.

Whoever wins that game likely wins the bracket though.

If Lange wins Game 1 and Poche loses Game 2 why would you not start Walker? What are you saving him for?

Exciting idea for a thread. Curious where the topic will take us.

Game two starter to me all depends on matchup. OSU crushes mistakes, I think Walker with his nibbling at the edges style is a better matchup. I think their power is from the right side also. Cal state is all about pitching (not that OSU isn't of course) I would start Poche against them.

I am not gonna debate on who should start where. But walker has had some incredible control of his pitches. He's right up there as a solid no 2 in my mind.

ordinarily Poche on Sat but he's been pretty rough lately although he deserves the start. Lange to face Oregon who will be the team we need to beat on Monday.

It doesn't matter if you lose game 1 or 2.

Same end result with fighting out of losers bracket.

Gotta win both for any advantage.

I'd prefer Lange on Saturday and Walker on Monday, especially if it's against Oregon State.

The absolute control he exhibited his last start was amazing. No 3 ball counts.

Without a doubt start Lang game 1 then Walker game 2. LSU needs to do everything it can to get to 2-0. Nothing against or about Poche' but Walker hasn't pitched in almost 2 weeks plus his last start he never got to a 3 ball count, which is insane. You need to think more about the match ups than being loyal to a senior and just sending him out there, in saying that Poche' will be vital to LSU winning a championship.

I can't see anyone but Lange in the first game. Maybe we could use Poche or Walker if FSU doesn't throw their ace but if we throw Lange in game one, then he can pitch again on short rest when we get deep enough into the series.

The only question is who to throw in the second game. I still like Poche over Walker but CPM and the staff know what's up and having a guy like Walker ready is a very good position to be in at this time.

However, it will be the LSU bullpen that will be the difference maker and make us extremely tough to beat as we get deep into the tourney. It's great to know that those guys are there to take charge when our starters start to flounder or just tired.
