Those bats were a difference maker.

that ‘97 team would lead the country in homers if they played today with today’s equipment.

just that more balls would land in the seats instead of way the hell behind them.

no they wouldn’t hit 188 dingers, but they would go over 100 for sure.

I think a serious argument can be made that the 98 team was better than the 97 team

I've read more than once an attempt at advancing this theory on this board but, a ring/no ring, Josh Dalton/Brandon Larsen debate has always been a hard sell for me.

Comparing 90's teams to today's team is the old apples/oranges story. HGH & steroids made those 90's teams MONSTERS. frick the bat , ball, pitching, umpiring , just whatever BS you want to bring up . Those steroid induced teams would 10 run rule the team LSU put on the field last year. For the last 10 years as far as that is concerned. If you are a non-believer , just check the NBA ,NFL , or MLB during the clear, HGH , & steroid days.

Choupique hit the nail on the head. Depends on the format. Old format, you needed to hit through the lineup or have tremendous pitching depth. One stud couldn’t carry you The new format, bats and field favors teams with two great pitchers.

That being said I think the 91 and 93 teams win it all with the new format, field and bats.

One challenge facing the '91 team was that they faced, at least on paper, one of the best college baseball teams I've ever seen.

Wichita State had 66 wins, a team BA of .334, team ERA 2.93 and their two leadoff hitters had 59 and 54 stolen base respectively.

As well as the '91 team was playing, it would have still been quite a feat to take 2 of 3 imo.

WSUs record was inflated by playing a weak schedule that year.

We would’ve beaten them 2 of 3. We faced their ace that day and beat him.

It would be hard to argue your point. In most people's minds that high hop over 3rd baseman Blair Barbier's head cost the Tigers a 3PEAT.

I agree That era was really a lot of fun to watch--you could give more high fives in one inning than you give in a whole weekend in today's game

Remember also that the tying run was scored by a successful bunt to Barbier at 3rd, who was playing that position for the first time all year, though Jake Esteves can be equally blamed for not covering first base on time.

I remember in the pregame radio show that Skip was justifying this sudden position move by boasting that his infielders were interchangeable.

Most people go on about the wind blowing in that day, but LSU came up short of a 3PEAT by the Skipper being out coached by the only man capable of doing so...HIMSELF.

They could have countered the next day with Kennie Steenstra 17-0 2.17 era, or Darren Dreifort 9-2 2.41, or Darren Paxton 10-2 3.15...Their "ace" that the Tigers beat that day, Tyler Green, although a strikeout machine that he was, had the second highest era on the team at 4.51.

Look at the pitching on the LSU rosters for LSU between 87 and 93. No team before or since was as loaded. I would put most of those teams up against any LSU teams.
