I compiled our defensive statistics after the Florida game.

Anyone who mentions how 3 losses for Daniels disqualifies him from the Heisman, feel free to post these in return.

2023 LSU Defense:
Total YPG: 405.1 - 106th
Pass YPG: 233.4 - 107th
Rush YPG: 171.7 - 102nd
PPG - 28.9 - Tied 98th
3rd down defense:
58/129 = 45% - 113th

Also, this quote from Barstool LSU is maddeningly true.

quote:

We're at the point to where each game we play is not LSU vs the opponent. It's Jayden Daniels vs Matt House and the LSU defense

His fault or not, Matt House can not be DC next year. You don't have a defense that ranks there and get to keep your job in Baton Rouge. Not unless it's in North Baton Rouge.

And this is with dominant performances against Miss State and Army.

Horrid. Just those per game averages alone are the worst since the Hallman era.

Yeah, really skews the data because of just how successful those outings were.

Truly unforgettable.

This.
Can’t say this enough. He’s inevitably responsible for putting 11 on the field that play fundamental football.
They don’t have to be the most talented, but they sure as hell can play solid technique. That alone would put them mid-pack in the NCAA.

We can debate the talent level all day long, but one thing is for damn sure and nobody should be able to argue: there are not supposed to be 100 schools more talented on defense than LSU. Not with the transfer portal.

Do the numbers vs power 5 teams. It’s just brutal. Aranda on speed dial please.

you can put some blame on the players for how bad this is, but the coach is supposed to be putting the players in the best position for success, and improving their technique

and it's glaringly apparent he's not doing any of that

There have been scores of missed tackles though, where the coach had a player in position and the play just was not made. The entire Ole Miss game was one missed tackle after another. All these guys are coached how to tackle. Hell, they’ve been playing tackle football all their lives. They know how to tackle.

No doubt that house needs to go. But, fire him to replace him with who during the season?

CBK is too seasoned of a coach to put himself or his players in that position. He's going to handle this at the end of the season. In the meantime, He's going to say the right things publicly to support his staff and players. He's going to clean House (pun intended) on defense at the end of the season. That's how this works almost all of the time, rather than mid season coordinator firings being commonplace, especially with a CEO type head coach.

I mean how do you keep this defensive staff with numbers like this? A once proud LSU defense has been reduced to this and to be honest they are bringing in no game changes with this current recruiting class. Bad coaching and bad recruiting is all im seeing on the defensive side of the ball. You have to start at the top with House. He has done nothing in the time he has been at LSU.

2020 was worse or about the same in Total YPG, Pass YPG, and PPG. They were about the same in Rush YPG. Only 3rd down defense was better.

2023 LSU Defense:
Total YPG: 405.1 - 106th
Pass YPG: 233.4 - 107th
Rush YPG: 171.7 - 102nd
PPG - 28.9 - Tied 98th
3rd down defense: 58/129 = 45% - 113th

2020 LSU Defense
Total YPG: 492.0 - 124th
Pass YPG: 323.0 - 127th
Rush YPG: 169.0 - 65th
PPG - 34.9 - 98th
3rd down defense: 47/126 = 37.3% - 37th

That third down number is pretty incredible considering how bad that defense was. They also faced less third downs than 23, so that’s likely why - teams just didn’t get to third down.
